If the power supply is improved as part of the mod, I'd try going straight to the wall first.
I had been running my APL Denon 3910 through a Hydra and BPT 3.5 Sig, and neither made much difference in the sound...good or bad. Then, I decided to plug the APL into a $50 ElectroClear that's plugged into a dedicated outlet. This is better in all respects than running through a conditioner. Apparently, the APL uses an R-Core transformer designed specifically for Alex that makes the use of a power conditioner redundant.
