Do you clean off the playing surface before each use? Many people do not, and the lens takes a beating.
The laser lens reads far closerthan even a tiny bit of invisible dust. The dust is like a boulder tothe gap.
So folks who never brush off the playingsurface get more problems.
I use a cosmetic blush brush and wipe off both sides of EVERY disc EVERY time before I play it.
I play CDs all day every day, and havenever had any failure other than capacitor problems.

The CDs/DVDs do not need to have anything you can even see to have dirt damaging the lens.

Is there CD-cleaning machine?

Is the problem all discs or just some new purchases? I've had copyright problems with a few protected discs and had to return them.

Don't repair it. Laptop->DAC is where to be, and where the innovation is occurring. Version 19 of jRiver can decode bit-perfect rips into memory and provide an excellent source stream into a DAC. Then you just choose the DAC you love, and swap out when a better DAC comes along.

It is just not cost effective to repair, especially given that the technology and cost of new units is constantly improving. Think about it being an opportunity to advance you enjoyment. Think Oppo, great products, great values.
