How much do you have to spend, to get a good Sub?

Would like to buy a new Sub Woofer. How much for a Good One and which Brand? For music only!

Hi Don,
I recommend Acoustic Audio HD-SUB10 Powered 10" Sub-woofer from Ebay. I paid $75 for each. I've bought it for experiment, and I like it very much! If you have really big room, buy 2. They sound better(may be equal) than Velodyne two SPL10 in my studio(36'w x 44'L x 18'h) for music.

I am a Newport Beach Audio show exhibitor, and I've taken V spl8s2, V optimum 10, and HD-sub10 to the show. I used V spl8 for show because it's smallest. My room was small.

I have Velodyne Optimum 10", SPL 10", SPL 8 s2, SPL 10 s2, SPL 12 s2, CT-120, CT-100, M&K-200, Energy 10", 4 bass shakers, etc.
If you are buying new, a good subwoofer that will be relatively easy to integrate into your system (which requires, as others have noted, that the subwoofer have some sort of automatic room correction software) will run between $2400 and $3200, minimum -- cost goes up from there for bigger drivers and a little deeper response. Good brands to look at include JL Audio, Velodyne, and REL. I would caution against buying an off-brand without auditioning it first -- a lot of them are just glorified boom boxes.
What's your budget? For music I'd go with a pair of sealed subs. You can get a pair of SVS SB12s for $1149 and free shipping. Tough to beat I'd think. I echo Marty's point about incorporating some form of integration software. Best of luck.

I have to agree with Soix on this one. The performance/$$$ ratio is very high with SVS.
