crackling sound out of right speaker

A few questions: Did you swap both your IC's and speaker cables? Also, do you hear the noise from just 1 driver or all of them? Lastly, does the noise change at all when you use your volume control?

No I didn't swap IC's, just the speaker cables.
I believe that I hear it from both the midrange & tweeter.
I hear the noise both when I have the volume all the way down and when the volume is up, however it seems more pronounced when the volume is all the way down.

Maddog66blue, you need to identify the problem component. This is done by a process of elimination. Start at the source, and swap the L and R interconnects. If the problem doesn’t shift from one speaker to the other, then the source component is not at fault. Move to the next component in the chain, and repeat the process until you notice a shift in the problem..

The final test would be to swap the speaker wires from L to R etc. If the amp is at fault, the problem will shift to the other speaker. If it doesn’t, then something is wrong with the offending speaker.

It maybe your preamp volume control. Try to jerk it up down. Also to make sure, if you have any other preamp or receiver, you can connect it onto your system and see if problem still there.

Hi Marakanetz, I'm not going to jerk it up and down, however I did adjust the volume and didn't notice any difference. I don't have a replacement preamp or receiver, I'm going to be bringing both the preamp and amp into the shop for testing.
