SolidSteel 5.4 equipment stand owners - question

I just received this stand last night. Everything is cool except I am unable to install spikes. They seem to go in about 5-7 mm and they don't go any further than that. These spikes are round on the sides so I can't use a wranch. I tried the pliers and the amount of force required to progress them any further into the thread inside the rack pole makes me think that there is something wrong. Has anyone else encountered similar problems with this product or is it just my luck? I called the place where I ordered it from and waiting for an answer, but figured to ask here as well. Thanks.

Have you tried coating the threads with some sort of lubricant, e.g. WD40 first? It will making threading much easier.
I have two SolidSteel 5.4 stands. There is a nut that goes on each spike. The spike with the nut should screw in the leg almost all the way to the nut. This way the stand can be leveled with the nut if needed.

The SolidSteel 5 is a nice rack for the money. I filled mine with play sand and it made a big difference. The other thing I would strongly suggest is to use Blu-Tac between the top of the cones and the shelf, especially the top shelf. This way the shelves can't be accidentally bumped off the cones.
I know nothing about the solidsteel racks but having designed a few racks of my own, more than likely what you've encountered is a machine shop that neglected to clean out the threaded parts of the points so all the grunge from the tapping is stopping you from completing the threading.

Try running the internal threads on the points under warm water to thoroughly rinse out the internal threads and you might also get a damp paper towel to clean the threads on the rods.

Hope this helps,
