Non Oversampling DACs
@justjames72  Congrats on your Onyx! I have not tried an Ambre yet, but seems people like it.  From what I hear, the I2S input is ideal for Metrum DACs and others; too bad there isn't an I2S standard across the board!  For now, as I mentioned earl...
Non Oversampling DACs
@mrotino +1 for the Metrum Acoustics Onyx... I have one as well, and been running it since early spring.  I agree with all you say above. Some other observations to add... I like the AES/EBU input the best (I'm using the excellent Snake River Booms...

Sound Quality of red book CDs vs.streaming
So, lemme see if I got this right.... you are streaming a service from some device (iPhone, iPad, laptop??) to the Chromecast via Bluetooth (strike 1), then the Chromecast is connected to your Gumby via USB (strike 2). Now onto Redbook CDs - you a...
New Tweak --- Its Fantastic
@mrs_ppt  Thx Krissy, that is helpful... I am enjoying the Total Contact, but 3 mos....that's a long time without any changes to the system, lol!
New Tweak --- Its Fantastic
Need a recommendation for best practices here folks.... as a habitual tube and cable roller (though I have to say my cabling situation is in a very good place now), and a happy user of Total Contact, what is the preferred way to use Total Contact ...
Looking for a digital cable 75 ohm
@wig Based on your definitions of warmth, the Boomslang fits into the latter description and not the former. They are not euphonic, slow, thick, nor do they have the rolled off highs that characterizes your first description of “warm”.  They are v...

AES cable for Berkeley Alpha Dac
@hgeifman +1 for the Snake River Boomslang digital cables! This is an older thread, but IMO and for the sake of recognition, the Snake River Boomslang is one heck of a great digital cable! I started out with their SPDIF cable with BNC connectors (w...
Three weeks with Omega SAM's
As Bon ( @jayctoy ) mentioned the SAMs are wonderful, I had them for a couple of years, then went on to a pair of SAM HOs. As good as the orig were, the HOs have more quality bass, play louder without distortion (better handling of more complex mu...
Which USB Cable to buy
And to get my 500th post, lol.....I found that USB cables with separated (isolated) 5v lines to be sonically better to those that did not have it separated.
Which USB Cable to buy
There's a Verastarr Nemesis USB cable listed here now, at a really nice price (no affiliation with the seller, yada, yada, etc.), which is an EXCELLENT USB cable. I have been using one for the last couple of years, and in direct comparison, I pref...
Might try a tube preamp
@bbreneman1   +1 for the Backert Preamp; I use the Rhumba 1.2.Excellent sounding preamp that's highly tunable based on the relatively inexpensive 12au7 family of tubes (uses a pair). Highly recommended!
My Long List of Amplifiers and My Personal Review of Each!
@charles1dad +1!! My Coincident Frank mkII 300b monoblocks have been rock solid as well, and they are easy on tubes. Great amps!
Have you ever changed speakers to expereince a different "soundscape" or presentation??
Congrats @lwin ! Can’t wait to hear them in your system Larry! I bet the Tektons are wonderful! I’ve heard the Tekton monitors a few times, and I like them, but your Ulfbrechts are sure to be on a different plateau.
