Ultimate DIY speaker design?
Yes, there are some drivers larger than 22", butthe 31.5" 500W Fostex driver used in that sub is a little flea weight compared to the 370 pound MTX Jackhammer that is design to handle 6000 Watts.
Describe the ideal high end audio dealership
1. Normal business hours and non of this "by appointment only crap". (I once had a store tell me to make an appointment just to buy some used gear)2. Floor samples for the whole product line. If you sell "Brand X", then have all the products, not j...

Best Carver stereo solid state amplifier design
I bought a TFM-55 and c-16 preamp right after college. I used them with CV speakers. This was a giant step forward as I left behind a Kenwood receiver and Pioneer tape deck.I recall the term "MID-FI" being used allot in the early 1990s, but I have...
Balanced vs. Unbalanced - What does it mean?
Almarg - Actully, Audio Research, at one time sold an active component just for converting from single ended to balanced (and the other way too). Did anyone ever buy one of these. (I think it was at the time of the LS5 preamp that only had XLRs an...
Balanced vs. Unbalanced - What does it mean?
True diff. balanced circuits use "common mode rejection" to reduce the noise floor of the equipment and increase signal to noise ratio. (not necesarly just line noise and RFI)Some (many) components have XLR connections tacked on the back, but the ...
Levinson vs. McIntosh vs. Lexicon or ?
IIRC, Harmen Int. bought Madrical Labs to get the Levinson brand and did away with the line call "Proceed" which started out to be "low cost-affordable" Levinson, but then morphed into Home Theater gear, as this was about the time that HT was real...
Want McIntosh sound, but can't afford the MDA1000?

Recall of Krell Amplifiers
What took them 10 years to get to it?
KEF 103.2 - what to expect?
I think those speakers had bases (not bass this time, lol) that were to be filled with sand or lead shoot to provide "mass damping"...or was that another model? Was said to help reduce sound coloration.(I never really owned KEFs, but a former cowor...
KEF 103.2 - what to expect?
"Remember to secure the KEF Cube"That's what I was thinking too. Didn't those KEFs come with some type of bass boost "black box" that was inserted into the reciever's tape loop? Maybe that is why they sound somewhat bright.
Need to turn on my gear via IR 12v trigger?
I too have been wondering how to begin using the 12v triggers on the back of all my audio gear. So, someone must make a gizzmo. See, if you have all the gear in a rack, then you can't get to the back panel master power switch (as allot of high end...
Pass XA30.5 or Krell FPB-400cx?
I've owned both brands, but never those models.Based on this, I would always select KRELL- Who could own too much KRELL?
Is there such a thing as tube sound in a ss?
Do you mean AUDIO RESEARCH REF 110?The VS110 is an out of production model and not even as good as the older VT series, imo. My oldish VT100 amp has great midrange detail with the right CD player (I use Krell KAV-300). It gives a good balance of d...
