Why are my woofers pumping?
Electronics bandwidth is an issue too- your amps are full power to 1Hz. Most tube amps can't go anywhere near that low.But I have similar bandwidth with both the amps and speakers at home, yet don't experience this issue. I am using a Triplanar, w...
SL1200GAE New Tonearm
Yes, maybe I can be more mind-calm with out removable headshell additional connection joints but this is not the whole history as it’s not what the you say about the bearing plane where it’s extremely important for unipivots but with the solid ...
Current, Amperage
Julian Hirsh also said that all well designed amplifiers sound the same. He was certainly wrong about that, but it depends on what is considered 'well designed'. If the amp is designed to have good specs and that's considered good, that's one thi...
Solid core power cords under 300$ - List of manufacturers ?
The reason there is an aftermarket of power cords is precisely because solid core wire is illegal for use in a power cord. Romex is extremely high performance, which is why you really don't have to worry about what's in the walls (if that is what ...
Am i missing something without a power conditioner?
My question is with these high quality power cords do i still need a power conditioner? Power cords do not do any power conditioning. The best power conditioners were made by a company called Elgar. You can find them on ebay; the 3000 and 6000 seri...
Buzzing/Loud overtones on Sansui 2000A receiver?
@marksatin9000Its likely that the ground wire (which is what you found) was cut or damaged in the past. It just needs to be lengthened and tied to the chassis or ground post of the Sansui.BTW, that receiver is plenty old enough that the filter cap...
SL1200GAE New Tonearm
Ralph, So sorry that I volunteered you for TP questions. That was unfair of me. (I think maybe that was why you wrote, "sheesh".)No, it wasn't, and no worries.would like not to drill into the plinth though. The arm I got is from John I think yo...
SL1200GAE New Tonearm
Sheesh.OK, we've done several SL1200G (or GAE) machines so far. Both the Triplanar 12" and the 9.5" arms can be mounted. I recommend replacement of the platter pad as well. We fabricate a special armboard; the concern is that the rigidity of the p...
My Long List of Amplifiers and My Personal Review of Each!
the plethora of 4 ohm speakers in the marketplace suggest many don't believe or this accept this viewpoint. .That's sort of true- what is really happening is most people don't think about it, including designers. But if you want to bridge that ga...
Solid core power cords under 300$ - List of manufacturers ?
Solid core AC power cords can't be UL approved as they can be dangerous for a number of reasons.
Help! My Magnepan tonearm finally needs to be rewired!
An employee of mine worked at Magnaplanar. According to him, there is a burr in the arm tube where the wires have to make an angle to go through the bearing area. Sooner or later the burr damages the wire- in short (no pun intended) they all do so...
My Long List of Amplifiers and My Personal Review of Each!
Looking into a great opportunity for another set of speakers that came to me just now... stay tuned :) @whitecamaross , FWIW, all amplifiers, tube, solid state or class D have lower distortion when driving higher impedances, such as 8 ohms as oppo...
When the Power Tubes Run Out
We design our equipment to only use tubes that are in production. That makes life a lot easier :)Additionally, as long as guitar amp manufacturers are using tubes, there will be a supply as they use far more tubes than home consumer audio! So 12AX...
My Long List of Amplifiers and My Personal Review of Each!
@charles1dad , Yes, that sounds like the Sashas to me. I've heard our MA-1s on that speaker and they seem to work fine despite that 2 ohm dip. I suspect speaker cable might be important; in the system I heard Audioquest was being used.
My Long List of Amplifiers and My Personal Review of Each!
@charles1dad The OP uses Wilson speakers (happily) so OTL amplifiers wouldn’t be an ideal pairing. I don’t find speaker sensitivity the limiting factor but rather speaker load impedance characteristics in regard to OTL compatibility. The nati...
