USB Ext Sound Card Vs. Squeebox
Drubin - Probably because the SB3 jitter is worse than the HagUSB jitter. If both are playing back 16/44.1, the only difference should be jitter. However, depending on the software that you are using with the HAGUSB, such as ASIO and different pla...
USB Ext Sound Card Vs. Squeebox
Seanchau wrote:"USB is better than Wireless"This is not a sound conclusion. Certainly not the case. Your experience shows that the particular implementations of wireless servers you auditioned are not as good as the particular USB implementations ...
jitter reduction?
I can easily hear the effects of jitter with either dome tweeter or a good ribbon. The point that I was making is that true stereo improves your odds for hearing jitter easily using lots of different source material.
jitter reduction?
"They used headphones in listening tests so loud speaker distortion was not an issue (most loud speaker distortion would probably make it even harder to hear jitter"Headphones???I used to believe that headphones were better than speakers, but not ...
jitter reduction?
Gmood1 - I have a Proceed AVP. No problem hearing the effects of jitter on this one. It beats the Lexicon hands down. It's so good that I have not bothered to mod it. I dont listen to music on it anymore, only movies. As for the crossover, I do mod...
Music Server vs. PC vs. Transport vs. ?
Chrisla - What type of jitter resolution does your equipment have? Are you an engineer or tech?I might be interested in paying you to do some measurements or otherwise horse-trading something for them. email me.Steve N.Empirical Audio
Music Server vs. PC vs. Transport vs. ?
Chris - dont be surprised if the Sonos does not blow you away. It has a great user interface, but the jitter fromt he digital out is atrocious. It needs to be reclocked. The Squeezebox is a lot better stock, but not as much fun as the Sonos to use...
jitter reduction?
Jitter studies must be taken with grain of salt. The systems and recordings used for these are all inferior IMO. I have been reducing jitter in my own and other products for many years. Each time I think the incremental jitter reduction will be in...
Music Server vs. PC vs. Transport vs. ?
Tboooe - I also have a Sonos and controller. Great user interface, but the jitter from the stock ZP80 is quite bad, much worse than a typical transport. IMO, if you want something decent stock, the SB3 is it.Steve N.
Music Server vs. PC vs. Transport vs. ?
Chrisla - the review you mention is an old one, using a USB driver from M-Audio, ASIO and SRC upsampling. This really taxes any computer. I think there might have been a bit of user error here also. With newer Windows drivers and the USB firmware ...
Music Server vs. PC vs. Transport vs. ?
The first thing to determine is what interface you like and want to use, as well as your family. I would run the demo at:http://www.sonos.comThe mass-produced music servers like the Sonos, Squeezebox and certainly the AirPort Express all have high...
How to avoid Kmixer
Herman is correct, AirPort Express is the only way to use iTunes with a PC. The problem is that the output is very jittery and it does not take advantage of the USB interface on your Wavelength DAC. MAC is the best solution for you to use USB and ...
When you go from USB to a DAC is it always SPDIF?
No. Other options are:1) AES/EBU2) I2S (direct D/A bus)#2 is lower jitter of course.Steve N.Empirical AudioManufacturer
Mac-Mini to Home Stereo Sounds Harsh
Toslink certainly adds a lot to the jitter. Another thing may be that your system has a component/cables that are causing a lot of sibilance. I woudl not rule this out. If there is a lot of jitter, this tends to mask things like sibilance. Once yo...
PC-Audio vs. High-end CD Player-GAME OVER
Kana813 - I didn't say it was better, just different. The DAC-gives you more options and lower jitter. The DAC-1 USB gives you the better output op-amps. Some may like one better than the other.... I prefer both modded, not stock.Steve N.
