Your favorite male soul voices
Damn, all great lists and nominees! Missing are Big Joe Turner, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, and Albert King, and if whites other than Van Morrison are okay (;-), Richard Manuel, Steve Winwood, and Bill Medley. Of course no one here would say Micha...
Is there a standard for number of LP's per inch?
How many albums do you own?! Why not just count them all? Or count the LP's in one cubicle (if your racks are comprised of multiple cubicles), then multiply that number by the number of cubicles.
Electrostatic pros and cons.
There is a guy on one of the forums with a fantastic speaker/sub combo: Martin Logan ESL panels, passed off to a pair of Magneplanar Tympani T-IVa bass panels (which make a great sub for ESL's), and finally to an Eminent Technology TRW-17 Rotary W...
Best power amp for Martin Logan Expression 11a
I looked up the Hegel. Damn, that is a LOT of power for an integrated!
Electrostatic pros and cons.
The Finnish company Gradient made OB/Dipole subwoofers for both the QUAD 57’s and 63’s. Though the subs used dual dynamic cone woofers, they being employed in OB/Dipole fashion allowed them to blend better with the QUAD’s (because of the inherent ...

@mike_f, did you try the RM-200’s 1 ohm tap?
Audio Additives Stylus Force Gauge inconstantcy
The body of the Riverstone gauge---they actually make two, but get the one with the extension arm which puts the stylus at playing height when measuring VTF---is made of a tough plastic, and that extension arm of a non-ferromagnetic grade of stain...
Woot! Decca cartridge bargain
The Garrott brothers' improvements to the old Deccas are legendary. I tried a couple of times to talk Ken Kessler (Hi-Fi News & Record Review, author of books on QUAD and McIntosh), a big fan, to sell me one of his. To no avail!
I’m gob smacked. What were you’re aha moments?
1- My first ESL tweeter, the three RTR's in the ESS TranStatic loudspeaker, also used by Arnie Nudell in his Infinity 2000A. The TranStatic employed the KEF B139 woofer in a quarter-wave transmissionline enclosure, the B139 also used by Dave Wilso...

Go onto Amazon and take a look at the Riverstone Audio gauge. $28.95, none better.
Top Ten "Reasons I Don't Like This Component"
In loudspeakers, it is those which provide a "looking down on the soundstage" perspective, and/or which put a vocalists mouth at waist height. I like to look up at the stage, and I want a vocalists mouth at least 5' off the floor. Point source lou...
It was 50 years ago today....
I still love those first two McCartneys. Paul played and sang all the parts on the first (as did Emitt Rhodes on his even better s/t 1970 debut), but had hired Studio/Jazz drummer Denny Seiwell by the time of Ram, paying him $150 a week to be on r...

Unipivot tonearms, flopping around like a fish-out-of-water.
Electrostatic pros and cons.
@clio09, were the speakers on the side wall ESP’s, and the designer’s name Sean McCaughan? I saw and heard them in the 1990’s at Acoustic Image in Studio City, CA, a great high end shop in SoCal. Never got to hear the Beveridge, though I heard the...
Whats playing on your system today?
Yup @n80, on Rick’s first album. I have all his solo stuff, as well as that of Levon and Garth. Robbie, uh, no ;-) . I was so happy that Levon received the recognition he did on his later albums, including three Grammies! But it was Richard Manuel...
