Jazz recommendations for a beginner?
Newbee I think you'vegot me mixed up with my namesake Sd Campbell (it happens a lot actually..poor Sd) who is the real Jazz expert. To answer your point.I apologise I didn't mean to seem eltist at all.Zargon's post deals very well with the category...
Jazz recommendations for a beginner?
Well I didn't mean to insult anybody-if you like Ms Krall then fine,I like lots of things other folks don't.I tend to think Kind Of Blue( ground breaking as it was in it's day) is on the mainstream of what I would call traditional Jazz. The other o...
Jazz recommendations for a beginner?
No offence Jorge but I'm inclined to say if you don't like Kind Of Blue but do like D.Krall then you are in the area of soft jazz and that you will probably not like traditional jazz much at all.
Decent SACD?
Tony it was indeed the Sony XA77ES,seems any other opinion is irrelevant,it beat the DAC6 too and the New York Yankees.
New Guy asking for help
I would start by getting a floor to go with your usual sized room and ceiling otherwise speaker placement will be tricky.
Edmund Fitzgerald-Which Gordon Lightfoot LP?
Bought this very CD on import about 6 years ago for that very same song. Before that an ex-girlfriend told me the tune seemed to be based on an old Irish folk song-don't remember the damn title now!
Nick Cave - Nocturama
Good album-Cave has matured in recent years without losing his spark-I like the harder stuff too.
Best band of the 80's
Tvad-I agree that U2 did their best work in the 80's though Achtung Baby is sometimes regarded as their best.I did like them a lot at the time, their success was clearly based on very straight forward rock dynamics and I realised at the time of the...
Best band of the 80's
I have a strange relationship with U2 I liked them a lot at the time but now I find a lot of it pretty tired sounding.I forgot The Smiths who are massively important and more original than U2.I would argue REM's 80's music has (in my mind anyway)a...
Best band of the 80's
Phasecorrect in my college days I sat on stage with Loop!I was part of the local road crew-they were so loud it was unbelieveable and they blew the main electrics! As usual in these threads I see two bands clearly belonging more to the 70's than 80...
Has audiophilia changed your music taste?
Cdc I don't think any system can make all music sound good.A point many Audiophiles seem to miss that even a crappy system can distinguish between "good" and "bad" productions-I've been noticing since I had the cheapest system as a teenager how mu...
Good old 2ch versus multi-ch, what to do?
With regards the well mentioned Sony XA777ES this is the very machine I considered.By listening to a well respected Audiogon member and SACD advocat he told me that the Sony was behind the Linn Ikemi on CD replay-well in my system the Ayre CX-7 de...
Good old 2ch versus multi-ch, what to do?
Betat only YOU can decide. These forums are great for advice but they work better for filling in gaps rather than a cast in stone recommendation.Try to demo a good CD player and SACD player in your system. For what it's worth I came to the very conc...
A Tough Question
The first rule of Fight Club is.............YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT FIGHT CLUB!!!!!
Any Pink Floyd Historians?
Rockvirgo's opinion is very like that of one of my work colleagues from London who saw Floyd many times in their early years. He considered DSOM the start of their decline.Personally I think sometimes it's hard to relate just as closely to music if...
