Correction to previous post. Sansui TU-717 was 17th ranked on fmtuner info. Need new reading glasses?
Philly FM Radio and FM Tuner Redux
I have a Sansui TU-717 that I picked up off ebay. It had just been serviced and aligned. I think I paid around $300 or less. It looks just like new and sound great. I looked on ebay today and there are some in that price range. It ranked 13 in the...
Is it speakers or my rock/metal music? Plus help ?
Bifwynee, I should have emphasized that I didn't think the Crown and possibly the Marantz equipment probably weren't able to display the full extent of the Revel's capabilities. I've always liked the Revels I have heard. Crown amps traditionally h...
Is it speakers or my rock/metal music? Plus help ?
This probably isn't all that helpful, but I thought it was curious that the Revels were driven by Crown, with Marantz pre and CD. Doesn't seem like ideal system matching, but what do I know.
Pre-amp or cd direct to XA30.5 ?
This has been discussed quite a bit on the forums. Use the search function on the forums. Type in "direct to amp" (without the quotes) and that will come up with several discussions. You might try to search "no preamp" also.

Too bad your drive was on Thanksgiving holiday. There are several nice Amish places to eat there. Hutchinson, Capital of grain elevators.
Happy Record Store Day
MoFi, Sour Grapes? I am sorry but standing in line is preferable to you than roaming freely and listening to local bands play? (what they had done in previous years) A business knowing that their biggest business day of the year and doing nothing ...
Happy Record Store Day
I agree with Actusreus. This is my 3rd record store day I've been to. Long lines, the only record store day items, were the early releases, not the exclusive stuff. A 45 minute wait to get in, browsed for 15 minutes, 45 minute wait in check out li...
can record skips be fixed?
It depends on what is really causing the skip. If it is a piece of embedded debris, some serious cleaning might get it done. I had a couple of records that had a skip that I couldn't see a scratch or anything. I took a toothbrush and some record c...
How to protect against burglary
I use a more common sense approach. As mentioned above, you are not going to stop a determined professional. The key is not making it easy. A good dead bolt lock on all entry doors that has long screws that anchor in the studs of the door frame. P...
Adding an Accuphase A-46
I have no direct experience with the particular gear referenced. When you double the power of an amplifier, you only get a 3dB increase in loudness. Generally, this is considered to be the lowest significant perception in sound increase most peopl...
Variable gain preamp ?
I have a slightly different example. I had an older Gamut preamp with 6dB of gain. My Gamut amplifier has selectable sensitivity to mate with different preamps. To match the it's brand companion I used the most sensitive position. I upgraded to Pa...
Acoustics and chair
Here is a suggestion for those where the headrest is high enough that it actually supports your head. Drape a towel over the back of headrest and that should absorb those nasty reflections. Or have your great aunt knit a little doily for those tha...
wyred4sound dac hookup to receiver
I am not knowledgeable about your particular receiver. If it has a direct mode, then you should be able to use Plato's method. Most AVRs do have the direct mode in the set up option.
Newbie Question: Why is turntable volume so low?
I don't think anyone has mentioned this, but you don't necessarily need an outboard phono preamp. You could use a step up between the turntable and McIntosh preamp. This could be an active head unit or step up transformers. The cheapest path would...
