Time coherence - how important and what speakers?
There is NO port on the Vandersteen 2,3 and 5 series speakers. They are not claimed to be trasmission lines in literature or anywhere else. They have an 8" woofer and a 10" driver (operates below 35hz) in a SEALED enclosure. The 10" driver is acti...
Looking for Tube Preamp with Phono and Headphone
The Audible Illusions M3A is an excellent preamp with phono and headphone out. You can look up reviews in the Stereophile archives. It was rated class "A" for a long time. The headphone output is one of the best along with the phono stage.
Vandersteen 2Wq corner placement?
I think it will be kinda tough to get a single sub in the corner to integrate properly. The only way to know is try it. No two rooms are alike. It really needs to be between the speakers on the same plain. I think you will get a little bit of dire...
How do you use subwoofer phase control ?
Sounds like the crossover isn't where it is suppose to be. Try changing it up or down and see if you get a difference.
How do you use subwoofer phase control ?
The best way is to take a SPL and set a level for the crossover region(like 80hz) Set the subs phase for maximum output at this level with the main speakers and it should be in closest phase. However, room anomalies can change this situation somew...
Vandersteen 2Ce Signature vs. 3A Signature
I used the 2ce sig for about a year before moving up to the 3a Sig. In my room, the 3a performs at a considerably higher level. The highs are more transparent and pristine. The midrange is more open and spacious. Both speakers are cut from the sam...
What makes certain cd players better than others?
A lot has to do with the DAC's used but also how they are implemented. Power supply isolation and capacity plays a big part. I personally think the jitter level is a very important factor. It seems to follow the other items listed and ultimately e...
Used Arcam FMJ23 or New CD72T?
Go with the FMJ23. It is a better sounding CD player all around.
Time coherence - how important and what speakers?
Look at a Vandersteen crossover and decide for yourself. There is a lot more to the crossover than most other speakers. As for being complex, I have always thought the more pieces parts the more the complexity. You can get a glimpse on his website.
Balance in Nature/Double Advents/Impedance/NAD2600
Set your input level controls on the amp to max and your impedance switch to 4 ohms. If these are the older (original Henry Kloss) Advents, they dip a little below four ohms. The NAD should be fine with this. I ran one set at 8 ohms into a 4 ohm i...
Speaker Cables
I use it in a bi-wire/bi-amp with my Vandersteen 3A Sigs. It sounds as good or better than any cable I've used to date. Wonderful smoothness and transparency. For reference, I have used Nordost SPM, Tara Labs Master Generation 2 and "The 2" and ha...
Separate ground for dedicated line
Find your breaker box. You'll find the pole ground there. If you want to drive a ground in your crawl space, make sure it is of the correct diameter and depth specified by your local code. It would work find. My home uses below ground wiring but t...
Pre-amp suggestions
If you are not into phono, get a used Audible Illusions L-1 preamp. It really settles the sound through ss amps. Very open and transparent without a lot of tube tubiness. If anything, you'll gain openness and transparency. I don't think you will l...
Front port vs. Rear Port
The problem with most all economical ported designs is that the upper bass (around 100hz or so) is slightly elevated to give the speaker more extension down lower. Most ported designs, even expensive ones, roll off pretty fast below about 60hz. So...
Review: N H T Super One Monitor
Too bad they have been dicontinued. They were a great little speaker for the money. However, there is a slight difference in the sound of the plastic cabinet Xu and the MDF black Super One.
