| How is Mid Fi defined? If you payed way too much for the sound you are getting, congratulations- you have genuine hifi! | |
| A "blind" speaker recommendation based on specs... A couple of examples: I have two very different standmount speakers that are both rated 86db 6ohm. My little 12/20wpc 8/4ohm t-amp makes nice open, full music with one pair, sounds anemic and shut in with another. The Totem One speakers I used to h... | |
| Lucinda Williams live Love her. Have never seen her live. Love her. | |
| Bi-amping + speaker crossovers = redundant? If you send the full range signal to the tweeters with tone controls setting the bass as low as it goes...you will blow your tweeters. No question, don't do it. Tweeters just cant move that much (excursion). | |
| Best CD with a muted horn? This cd is not all about showboating trumpet. It's a modern recording that is a throwback to earlier jazz years. Does feature some nice muted trumpet. It's an excellent sounding standard cd, that I absolutely love. If you can find a copy I think y... | |
| Class A watts vs Class A/B watts When I had Totem 1s, they made some amps sound weak and shut in. My friend uses a Bedini 25x25 class A 25wpc with them and it sounds great. You would be best served by auditioning the amps if at all possible. | |

| Looking for a compact speaker w/ some low end kick Another thought- how big were the floor standers you just gave up? I have a pair of PMC FB1s (and my wife loves them) and they don't take up any more space than most of the speakers mentioned with stands. Maybe you should look into one of the tiny... | |
| Looking for a compact speaker w/ some low end kick Centuries ago I listened to a pair of Linn Sara speakers. I was most impressed with the meaty bass they produced. I have not heard the Mani-2s or the Neats, but they both use the isobaric double woofer design as did the Saras (Linn has a patent). ... | |
| Ten Percent Distortion? When I look for speakers on ebay or craigslist, I love when the seller lists how many watts they are. | |
| What percentage of audiophiles use a sub ? Some rooms are difficult to make a "full range" speaker work. Without a dedicated listening room where acoustic treatments don't look out of place, sometimes you have to make due with what works. In my room I have had ultimately better results wit... | |
| Tweeters That zaphaudio list is interesting. Zaph also did a test of ribbon type tweeters that concluded that they tested relatively poorly. A $29 vifa dome outperformed 4 out of 5 on paper. Cant remember what manufacturer I read recently using two domes t... | |
| soft dome speakers I have no bias against soft domes, I like both, but don't count out metal domes when done right. I believe a well designed metal dome does not necessarily have that sharp or ringing signature. I would think it has a lot to do with crossover design... |
