Floorstanders for small rooms? Budget $1200 used
I've owned both the Soliloquy 5.3 and the 6.2 floorstanders. Both are excellent speakers, and mate well with ANY amp, even in a small room. The only thing I found was that in a small room, I preferred single speaker cable (vs. bi-wire), which tended...
Copper vs. Silver interconnects
Mike,Thank you for sending along the copper prototypes. I've been listening to them all week. They are wonderful in our SET/horn system. They are just a hair less lively than the silver cables, but they are more emotional. In fact, I've been broug...
Music for the spirit and the soul
El Cancionero de Medinaceli1535-1595Hesperion XXJordi SavallJust bought this one as well. It is described on the CD cover as the music of Philip II of Spain, which is quite varied stylistically. What an uplifting CD!It just never ends...
Argh Too Many Choices
I second Jax2's comment about the Mono 10 push/pull triodes. They have a midrange that approaches that of SET amps, but have considerably more bass response than any of the Wright SET offerings. And the sense of timing of the Mono 10's is extraord...
hospital grade or commercial grade receptacles ?
Irvrobinson,I myself have a strong inclination for debate. In fact, I tried to bury my wife one too many times with her own words, and thankfully I stopped when she called my attention to it.In answer to your question, of course the community welc...
hospital grade or commercial grade receptacles ?
Irvrobinson,This community exists and expands upon a foundation of curiosity and question. But in your first thread on Audiogon, you have sufficiently proven that you have no such contribution to offer this community. Your points are well taken, a...
Argh Too Many Choices
SET and horns are no doubt a luscious combination. However, if it's more bass that you want, I would suspect that you would want a speaker that digs deeper than the one you have. Nothing like a little more bass to chase that 'top heavy' brightness...
hospital grade or commercial grade receptacles ?
It's startling that with a dash of theorical science in hand, the self-proclaimed experts of power are also signing their own degrees in psychology. So you think it's bogus, snake-oil, a waste of money. So what? Go ahead and use a piece of yarn fo...
who lives where?
Hello Foxtrot,Isn't Chile the ugliest place on the planet? Please tell everyone that it is so they won't ruin it! OK, in all honesty, I've never seen such magnificent scenery as in Chile. And I have travelled quite a few beautiful places on this p...
hospital grade or commercial grade receptacles ?
Feel free to choose your own line of reasoning, but the only truth I answer to in audio is the one informed by my own two ears. And that is my final answer, Regis.
What speakers for 300B S.E.T ??
Twl,Thank you for the great feedback. Sounds like this could be a fun project in my future, and one that potentially could work perfectly for Dilly. All the best,Howard
hospital grade or commercial grade receptacles ?
Maybe I'm missing something, but among all of the posts that I've read by those who report scientific data to insist that PC's and outlets don't make any difference, I don't recall anyone saying, "I've tried, XYZ $50 cord against XYZ $600-1000 cor...
What speakers for 300B S.E.T ??
Twl,This looks like a very rewarding project. How do your speakers sound in comparison with other horns that you have heard?Beautiful system, by the way.
Merlin Owners - Opinions?
I've been reading so much about the Merlin/OTL combinations that I'm feeling the NEED to hear it. Does anyone in Northern California run this combination? Or even the Merlins with a different type of amp? If so, and you don't mind me coming over f...
What speakers for 300B S.E.T ??
I was not crazy about the Loth-X horns, or the newer Klipsch variety. But hey, that's just me. If you are going the Klipsch route, go for the earlier models. As mentioned, the Cornwall (around $800 used) is also a great choice. If nothing else, I ...
