| Solid State for Rock and Tubes for Jazz, Yes or No hi tmsorosk,Actually I agree with you, most everything we state concerning audio is just based on our individual experiences and and the conclusions we form as a result. What I wrote is just my personal account and impression of my reaction to dif... | |
| Solid State for Rock and Tubes for Jazz, Yes or No For quite sometime I`ve felt the amplifiers with high damping factor produced bass that seemed contrived and artificial. They just did`nt sound like bass instruments do in natural/live settings. It`s as though the normal bloom, tone, fullness, body an... | |
| Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil Makes you wonder if that extra weight and mass confer more beneficial damping. I`m sure there`re other factors involved but damping may be an under appreciated result.Regards, | |
| If you had to choose: tube amp or tube pre-amp? As to which type of amplifier SS or tube will sound more dynamic is completely dependent on the speaker they`re matched with (this can`t be emphasized enough).Same is true for bass performance.Based on the designer`s intent some speakers need more... | |
| Capacitor question Wdascenz,Might it be too early to say david made a mistake? Based on the replies from those familiar with the CuTF V-Caps they need many hours before one can draw accurate conclusions. Now it`s certainly possible that after complete burn-in david ... | |
| If you had to choose: tube amp or tube pre-amp? Grannyring,Yes life is very simple and enjoyable with SET amps. One output, driver and rectifier tube per monoblck, that`s it.Regards, | |
| If you had to choose: tube amp or tube pre-amp? A good tube preamp would certainly be an improvement, but your original question was an either /or tube pre-power amp. | |

| If you had to choose: tube amp or tube pre-amp? Al,good advice, correct the root of the problem then address the lesser issues afterward.Solid state amps won`t always result is better bass quality. It absolutely depends on the speaker design and parameters. Some speakers are meant to be used wit... | |
| Capacitor question ATmasphere,I appreciate the clarification. I did`nt know power supply quality is more crucial in a SET amplifier. It makes sense as I know the maker of my SET refuses to use electrolytic capacitors.Grannyring,I agree with you, this topic and the di... | |
| Capacitor question Hi Jallen,You know people who directly compared V-Caps to Duelund(CAST or VSF versions) and preferred the V-Cap 'sonically' or in terms of relative value?Regards, | |
| If you had to choose: tube amp or tube pre-amp? It depends on your speaker. If your speaker is compatible with tubes I`d go tube power amplifier if your goal is tube sonic attributes. The tube preamp won`t have the same influence and the SS amp presence will be known(ok if that`s what you want)... | |
| Capacitor question Hello Cathode,My question was based on curiosity and considering value/sonic performance cost ratio. No BAT is`nt a non profit organization, that was`nt my point at all(I`m a strong supporter of capitalism and free enterprise by the way).My perspect... | |
| Capacitor question Dgarretson, i`m some what surprised that an amplifier at this price level would use "14" inexpensive electrolytic capacitors.I can imagine the film caps would be much better sounding.Regards, | |
| Capacitor question Chad,Thanks for your input, it`s always informative and appreciated.I did decide to order the Duelund CAST for my speakers(only need 1 pair). I hope my results match yours.Regards, |
