| Where to buy vinyl? I enjoyed going to Amoeba Music in LA. I still like the "touch and feel" aspect of going into a record store. Great jazz and classical section with huge selection of new and used vinyl.Otherwise the usual online suspects should work well for you. | |
| Speakers: $3,000-$4,000 on Audiogon Along the lines of the Harbeth suggestions Spendor (1/2e or SP100) might also fit the bill. | |
| Jeff Rowland Capri preamp For the time being I'd like to keep tubes for my amp. So the VAC or Atma-sphere come to mind (my speakers were voiced with the latter, but the designer also feels the VAC amps work well, which they have so far with the Avatar SE).I've seen the Hag... | |
| Jeff Rowland Capri preamp Ultimately I would like to go to an all balanced set-up. I might be getting a set of VAC Musicblocs in the future with the balanced input upgrade to go with the Capri, but for now it will run unbalanced into the VAC Avatar SE. However, I may try t... | |
| Jeff Rowland Capri preamp I'll be getting a Capri with the phono boards. For the time being it will be run through the amp section of a VAC Avatar SE, 70 watts ultralinear push-pull.I've enjoyed reading many of the threads on this preamp. I'm looking forward to auditioning... | |
| Cable elevators - conventional wisdom wrong? The reason I use cable lifters (homemade version) is that it makes it easier for me to vacuum the rug without accidentally running over them. | |
| Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? I just got my Soundsmith adapter and mounted my B&O MMC2 (original NIB I had in storage for over 12 years) on my Micro Seiki MA-505 arm. I was surprised at what I heard. Peter at Soundsmith said that if the suspension, stylus, and/or cantileve... | |

| Thinking about selling Vinyl collection - long Ken,I used to live in Arlington and visited the Audio Associates store on Fairfax Drive quite a bit. I bought a Hafler amp and preamp there, along with a Yamaha DSP unit. This was back in the late 80's to early 90's. Back then Myer Emco and Audio ... | |
| Amp/preamp suggestions in $3000-4000 range Mordante,Good call on the integrated. I have separate transport and DAC, and until recently also had separate amp and preamp. I just picked up a VAC Avatar SE and the simplicity this brings to the set-up has been a big surprise. Not to mention the... | |
| MC phono stage without transformer? This has to be one of the best threads have read on Audiogon. | |
| Amp/preamp suggestions in $3000-4000 range The Butler is a very neutral and transparent amp. The bass is tight and deep. High end extension is very good. The amp is also very quiet. Their use of tubes in the design is somewhat different than other traditional tube amp designs. Lots of good... | |
| Monarchy NM24 as a pre-amp -- good enough for me? Not sure I understand 6'oclock on the dial. When I tried the preamp section I got to about 9'oclock. I generally prefer 12 o'clock (straight up).Tube rolling is fun with the unit. Try to ditch the volume control in the future as well for something... | |
| Joule Electra Owners-What Power Cables? When I owned my Joule LA-100 MkIII I used a Virtual Dynamics Nite II and VH Audio Flavor 4 PC on it with good results. In the end I preferred the Nite II.However, this was a few years ago now. If I were using it today the Tel Wire would get a seri... | |
| Need to purchase a Phono Pre for Dynavector 20XH If you can stretch it to $2000, get the K&K Audio SE. I used one with a Dynavector 20XL and it worked great. Uses low cost quality tubes and the load switch is on the rear panel. Quietest phono stage I've had in my system. |
