| best turntable under $5k Another vote for SOTA. I have the Nova Series V with a Kuzma Stogi tonearm. This combo is around your price range new. Using a Graham or Shroeder Model 2 will take you a little higher but is worth the upgrade I'm told. I'm considering the Model 2 ... | |
| Jolida CDP question Brownsfan,Good points on the non-upsampling filterless DAC designs. I have two Audio Mirrors and they have both been great to listen to, not to mention one of the best investments I have made in this hobby. I sent one off to TRL to be modded and i... | |
| Mid-priced warm sounding DAC? Im all ears,I plan on doing a review of the of the TRL vs. stock Audio Mirror. I will eventually post my impressions of the Poth vs. stock Audio Mirror as well. It may be awhile, as I'm in the process of also comparing numerous phono stages, but i... | |
| Mid-priced warm sounding DAC? There was a thread here recently that was removed regarding the similarities between the Poth and Audio Mirror. The owner of Audio Mirror posted a response similar to what was said on the head-fi thread. I have two of the Audio Mirror units, one t... | |
| Aesthetix Io phono with volume pots Audio Unlimited in Denver, CO is an Aesthetix dealer. Contact John Barnes: 303.691.3407. I have had many great dealings with John when I lived in Denver, and even now that I live in CA I still deal with him occasionally. He is an expert in analog. | |
| Cary SLP-98L Mark,That is a pretty hefty price tag. I noticed the spec said it has 6 x 6SN7, it looks like 4 to me with 2 other types of tubes to go with them. I'm sure it is an amazing piece of equipment given Cary's reputation. I support them, but not that m... | |
| Cary SLP-98L Mark,That is one nice preamp. I'm hoping it comes in a linestage only version as well. Do you know what the cost will be on this. I'm going to RAMF at the end of the month so hopefully I'll get to hear it there.I agree with the matched amp/preamp ... | |
| Cary SLP-98L I have a Cary SLP-98L that I use with a Cary V12i (Siemens NOS EL-34s and 7308s). I like this set-up quite a bit. The Sylvania 6SN7Ws and cryoed GTBs combination in the preamp certainly doesn't hurt the sound quality and are a large improvement ov... | |
| Naim CD5x --How does it sound?? Flat in my opinion. I heard the unit in a Naim set-up with Harbeth speakers. It was my intent to take the unit on a 30 day trial and put it in my system but after the audition I passed. I felt the Sim CDPs were better, as were a couple of tube CDP... | |
| PS Audio Ultimate Outlet/P300 power cord ? For me it made the biggest difference on the P300 with which I used the PS Audio xStream Statement. I used an older Synergistic research pc on the HC/UO. | |
| Best method and software to convert vinyl to cd I have the Alesis ML9600. You can use the RCA digital inputs to record LPs to the HD, do mixing or sorting if you like, then burn a CDR. I don't use it for that purpose, but if you go to the Stereophile archives and look up Michael Fremmers review... | |
| A Sad Day... Ross,I am sorry about the loss of your analog gear. It must have been a difficult decision. I live in SB. If you ever want to listen to a favorite LP or just sit and listen to analog feel free to contact me. I have a SOTA Nova TT with a Kuzma Stog... | |
| TRL Marantz Sa-14 So excited that I sent the Audio Mirror to them UPS 2 Day. In addition I am getting the CRL Silver digital IC with Bocchino ends ($85 each I believe just for those). My previous experience using the CRL Silver power cord on the TRL Alesis transpor... | |
| Help me spend $8,000 this is really long, sorry Many here feel that the Supratek Syrah preamp is an excellent buy and comes with one of the best phono stages. The Cary SLP-98L which I have is also available in a model that includes a pretty decent phono stage as well (SLP-98P). It seems you pre... | |
| Is solid state obsolete? Since Tube Research Labs, makers of some fine quality and expensive tube gear, is now making transistor amps, which they indicate are much quieter than their tube models, I would think solid state is far from dead. |
