Is the Mark Levinson 390S still a reference player
I had a 390s for a while and never fell in love with it. I felt it was a little dark sounding and lacked a certain sparkle. It could sound great rocking along to music with real drive but lacked the subtilty to engross with most other music. I hea...
Great Amp Suggestion for Aesthetix Calypso
I'm running Calypso with Kharma mono's, they work a treat. I've had for example the Dartzeel int and Jeff Rowland Criterion/301 in my system and while they're far more expensive I wouldn't swap mine out for either. More musical than the Rowlands a...
LEBEN CS600 OR CS300X
I'd be careful pairing the 300x with anything but the most sensitive speakers. There are amps out there that deliver plenty of current along with 15w or so that can deliver results with modestly efficient easy to drive speakers. The 300x IME is no...
What 6922 tube will improve bass definition?
I replaced Sovteks in a Aesthetix Calypso with late 60s Blackburn factory Mullard ECC88 (6922). Got a much bigger improvement than anticipated. In particular bass weight and definition. Less than $100 for a matched pair, highly recommended. They'v...
Teo XLR
Good to see this tread revived, I'll be interested to hear HiDiamond properly. Funnily enough someone I know through a UK forum lives close and worked for as far as I'm aware the last UK distributor for HiDiamond. I heard two of his systems which ...
Aesthetix Calypso vs ARC LS25 MK2
Calypso has been a recent addition in my system and I've embarked on a little tube rolling. I've tried JJ Tesla 12ax7, cryo treated NOS Jan Phillips 5751 & Sylvania triple mica black plate 5751. The JPs offered greater air and clarity and the ...
Signature Anti-Cables
I've had the new sc in my system since Christmas. Its a step up. I notice more substance, fuller imaging and improved transparency. Standard sc is good, the new makes for a worthwile improvement for the money imho.
tube rolling for Aesthetix Janus
I've a Calypso and have had good results with 60s UK Mullard ecc83 and cryo Jan Phillips 5751, currently trying Sylvania triple mica, black plate 5751 which are also good.
B&W 805D2 or Magico Q1?
I expect you'd find the cost price of the crossover components in the Q1 are similar to the cost of an entire 805D at retail. I've not heard them so can't comment on what difference that might make in terms of sq.
Vienna Acoustics Haydn Grand amp suggestions?
Not sure re class d but a friend ran his Haydn with Lavardin IS and it sounded great. Expect IS ref would do an even better job
Signature Anti-Cables
I've had Paul's 'Reference' speaker cable in my system for about 100hrs now. Twin strand per speaker and higher purity copper. I've noticed little from a 'burn in' perspective. They are a step up from the regular AC, definately offering a more tra...
Planning to buy SF Ellipsa...any input?
I heard Elipsa briefly recently driven by Devialet. The system had a beautiful, airy laidback quality. Very easy on the ear, perhaps not as transparent as my system and definately a little loose in the bass by comparison but well worth an audition.
Time to Upgrade??
I had SF GPs a few years back, one of the caps began to leak and I changed the lot. I'd expect given their age a good tech might be able to give yours a good spring clean. That said I sold mine not long after and was very happy with Totem Forests ...
pass labs xa30 to valve amplifier.
Hi James, as you're in the UK I'd suggest contacting Anglesound Audio near Watford. Always looked after me and does Pass along with a number of tube brands, I've heard Almarro sound good there. I'm sure if nothing else he'd offer you some good adv...
What to upgrade from Totem Forrest?
Forests are a terrific speaker, I ran them with 200w of solid state very happily. I upgraded to Kharma and was surprised how much more the Kharma's had to offer, quite a bit more expensive and a good deal more speaker. S/h mine would likely be in ...
