Which cone's or platforms have helped?
Same as Tom (I am happy with Neuance shelving under the source gear).I have used Neaunce for a year and half and other footers make my setup sound funky in comparison. Guess I am used to its sound, as well.I have never tried roller bearings though...
What percentage do you spend on each component?
22% - Front End (CD/TT)05% - Preamp05% - Power Amp18% - Speakers34% - Cables (speaker, IC, power)06% - Power Conditioning10% - Rack/ShelvesPretty odd eh? I downsized my setup some time ago (amp & DAC), but did not sell any of the cabling. Calc...
Record mats, VTA, clamps and my ears
Not familar with your deck, but both the mat material/construction and it's thickness (due to changing VTA) will alter the sound.I do not consider myself to be a cheapskate (a potlicker yes, but never a cheapskate), and coming from this standpoint...
Where does your user name come from?
SwampWalker: No offense, but after El Dragon's post a few years back I always "think" SwampKiller though I read SwampWalker (can't get that one out of my head:-).
Where does your user name come from?
The moniker is my first/last name intitals, spelled phonetically (it's also a nick name). I had thought it best not to use my full name as the amount of emails received would be endless (being that I am rich/famous and extremly sexy in real life).
I can't really hear a big difference
Did you eliminate the Numark DJ mixer from the chain?
RadioShack outlets VS. Panamax.
Marakanetz: Another option might be the John Risch designed power filter "kit" offered by Kevin H. @ diycable.com. I have no personal experience regarding this one, though you should be able to gather feedback by doing a search @ AA (my memory is ...
RadioShack outlets VS. Panamax.
Marakanetz: I tried a couple of RS power strip/surge protectors and they sounded really bad (I now use them on the TV's).For $100-$130 you can buy a Monster HTS-2000 conditioner (used or new/discounted) for the source gear and you might like the s...
Raising Speakers
Agree with TWL: A very "slight" adjustment to the angle will raise/lower the image quite a bit. I even do this with stand mount speakers (adjust the stand spikes to raise the front a tad, which gives a more spacious sound in my setup).
What to do when buyer claims sellers item broken?
Did the new owner know how to properly install the 2A3's? If both amps failed upon power up, it would seem to me that they were not (properly installed) and it would not take very long (a few seconds, as described) to trash the amps. If so, this s...
Design an entire system for $800? ?
Have him audition a Yamaha Piano Black mini system. If the room is not too large and if he does not blast music it should fill the bill.Another option (for higher volume playback) would be the integrated amp/CD player (all in one unit) by NAD and ...
Where 2 buy 3x distilled water and 100 alchohol?
Hi Bob: It was just something that I read @ AA along with the possibility that my old 99.953% alcohal may contain (as a bi-product) a nasty chemical, albeit in small trace amounts. I believe that this info came from chemists @ the site.As far as t...
Free TWEAK that works
Jadem: Interesting. I have everything on hand (an extra "stock" shelf, the Neuance shelf under the CD player and 1" bubble wrap) to try this out. Perhaps when a friend/phile stops by in a couple of weeks we will give it a go?
Where 2 buy 3x distilled water and 100 alchohol?
Hi Bill: Agree with Bob, but switched to 91% Isopropyl alcohal (available @ many drug/grocery stores for $1.50/Pt as it should not not contain toxins that are sometimes created during higher levels of distillation (such as is possible with the hig...
Anyone else like to Listen in the Dark?
As much as possible. I hide the tube gear (in a closet) and just listen/concentrate to/on the music, along with the various cat ID tags (5 cats) jingling on the food/water bowls and my wife walking through the living room (enroute to the kitchen) ...
