Shotgun Biwire-Definition please
I can see there's a difference of opinion as to what's what & it all depends on who you learned it from.My take on bi-wire is this:Single bi-wire: Two terminations at the amp & four at the speaker per side. Two separate cables needed for a...
Review: Von Schweikert Audio VR4 Gen III Speaker
Hi Terry & thanks for the suggestions. At this time, moving the speakers away from the walls will not be possible. The only thing I can do to remedy that is buy a new house! As for the vibrapods, I used a similar tweak. I bought a set of Herbie'...
$10 / foot speaker wire
I have some Luminous Audio Renaissance speaker cable in a true bi-wire set-up & for the price it's hard to beat. Instead of going into details, I'll just list my review> http://www.audioasylum.com/audio/cables/messages/44584.html >if you...
How did you hear about Audiogon?
I started at Audioreview about 3 years ago buying & selling gear & from there found this place. When AR changed their format I stopped going there & have done almost all of my on-line deals here since. I still use my local dealer but A...
The details of selling/shipping overseas
I sent a package to Hong Kong but not sure how that compares to Japan. I used USPS Global Priority & it arrived in 3 days w/ no problems whatsoever. It was also the least expensive way to ship at the time, which has been about a year.
Help with upgrade path
I'd like to suggest taking a look at your AC first if you haven't already done so. Dedicated lines, upgraded outlets & PC's should at the very least let you hear what your system is capable of.For the specifics of listening at higher volume so...
Vandersteen 3A Sig, Von Schweikert VR-4 MOD, VR-5
I have a set of regular VR4 Gen III's that I've had for almost a year & I think they are excellent speakers. There have only been a handful of 'philes that have heard my system & they all enjoyed it very much. My room size is similar to yo...
Was it worth the effort ? Advice needed...........
Always try the easiest fix first, which would be use a pair of vise grips to remove the broken off stud. If the piece that the points thread into is removable, you might be able to get to the stud from the other side but I'm not familiar with this...
General DIY Soldering Questions
I would suggest doing a google search for soldering techniques, as there's a bunch of good info, i.e.: http://www.elexp.com/t_solder.htmI prefer a pencil type soldering station, as the pencil is easier to hold than a soldering gun. Also, I like a ...
Opinoins on SS.amps.
I have an Ayre V-5x that replaced an Ayre V-3 & I mention that as anytime somebody (not just myself) sticks with the same brand that says something about the product.I also have a Pass pre in my system & although you can get 100 opinions h...
Any photography experts out there?
Here's something that might work with your digital camera. I sometimes diffuse the flash with a thin piece of white cloth or paper directly over the flash. It helps to reduce glare considerably. You can use other colors but that will be picked up ...
Signal Flow of older AudioQuest Topaz
I too have an older pair of AQ Topaz that I am cannibalizing in order to use the RCA's for another set of IC's. It probably wouldn't hurt to take the barrels off to make sure the rings are on the correct end (or simply the same on both cables) in ...

Best drink while listening to your rig?
A wide open question you asked, so why the obviously contrastingly worded reference? The matter of fact statements with regards to the other posters was not a barb about alcohol, rather just stating my preferences. (milk & bottled water) Nothin...
Best drink while listening to your rig?
I'm with Hpshps, Jmcgrogan2 & Warrenh on this. No alcohol when I want to do any serious listening, whether it's for critical purposes or just to enjoy.
