Proac Response 2.5 vs D25
Great report. If Fried would just get their dealer network together so I could find a pair to hear in Northern California.
Anyone know anything about Eleanor McEvoy?
When I was in Ireland on a golf trip in 1993, having dinner in a pub, they were playing some really great music. What is that, I asked. They showed me the disk and I picked it up at a record shop the next day. A Woman's Heart. Features Eleanor as ...
Review: Sony SCD-1 Audiocom-UK upgrade
JD, I have the transport mod and the output transformers on mine. Not sure if he has added anything in the past year, but I also yearn for greater front-to-back depth.
Review: Sony SCD-1 Audiocom-UK upgrade
Interesting. Do you think this is tubes vs. SS thing or that the modified SCD-1 is not all you thought it was, or what?I have a Kern-modified 777, by the way, but it's the only digital I've had in the system since I got the mod, so I have been cur...
First Order Crossovers: Pros and Cons
Nice to see you here again, Karl. (Maybe you've been around and I just missed it.)
Review: Portal Panache Integrated Amplifier
I give up, but not before I making one more comment:I have driven variable output CD players into a host of power amplfiers from Pass, ARC, CJ, and others. No one would ever describe any of these as an "integrated" amplifier because they had no pr...
The most detailed speaker cable??
>Are we all fools?Maybe. REG would say you (we) are, though he probably wouldn't use that term. If you blindly trust only what you hear and you don't also THINK and QUESTION, then I would have to agree. Rsbeck, please don't go away.
First Order Crossovers: Pros and Cons
Sean, next time I'm in Chicago, can I come over?

>If it doesn't need a gainstage preamp, then it is already an integrated amp. Clear so far. This is where I'm confused, Steve. Let's say my CD player has attenuation and I run it directly into my basic amplifier. Where's the gainstage preamp? Y...

Newbee--well said. Steve is waving his arms excitedly but not making any sense, at least not to me.
The most detailed speaker cable??
I'd like to take Sean and Robert E. Greene of TAS and lock them up in a room together and watch the festivities. The esteemed Dr. Greene thinks pretty much like Rsbeck except that he also doesn't care much about source components or amplification....
tube upgrade for first sound
I'm having the exact same problerm with a new pair of EH6922's. Sometimes tubes go bad well before their time, I guess. Maddening.I'm almost certain it can't be the OA2, which is not in the signal path and thus can't create the kind of distortion ...
Review: Portal Panache Integrated Amplifier
Steve, I couldn't follow that.I think the question at hand is not integrated vs. separates but an active preamp section vs. a passive preamp section in an integrated. It certainly seems logical that eliminating the additional gain stage of the act...
First Order Crossovers: Pros and Cons
Thanks. Okay, so who makes a "true full-range point source omni dirver" loudspeaker?

Do the models in the current Walsh Mk II series qualify?
