Stillpoints - snake oil?
In a recent Hi-Fi+ magazine article the journalist interviews and follows a Hi-Fi consultant.  This consultant is employed by people to come over to their home and he spends time aligning the system: speakers, racks, cables etc.  Under each compon...
Boenicke
I demoed 15 speakers in the last year and ended up with Boenicke.  I wrote a review of them all here:http://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/a-brief-review-of-15-high-end-speakers-on-home-demo-including...
CDs Vs LPs
CD for sure.  I have A/Bd the two and CD always wins out in my book.  I have finally found a particular CD player which sounds as 'analogue' as the best record deck I have heard: the Vitus SCD-025.  Whatever mystery substance is in that DAC works ...
Looking for a warm sweet speaker
The Swiss brand Boenicke are a speaker worth checking out if they are available in your area. They have this unique balance of naturalness and warmth whilst losing nothing in detail. Extraordinary speakers. The Boenicke/CAD room in Munich was one ...
Please evaluate my system...
I agree re AC mains. The biggest improvement I ever had was adding a dedicated Hi-Fi ring main from the mains fuse board (I am in the UK). The old house power outlets which connect to the other house sockets remain and sit next to the new dedicate...
First Foray into XLR
I have a fully balanced Vitus amp and yet still found the rca version of my Townsend F1 Fractal cable sounded better than the XLR equivalent, and better than other XLRs I tried including Transparent cables.
Interconnects and non-believers
Hey @Geoffkait, someone back there or on another thread said you have a website - I can’t find a way on here to pm you but could you send a link if there is a way to do that on this Audiogon? You have interesting views. Sorry to go off-topic.
Floor standing speaker isolation advice needed.
I know you said Gaia and Townshend are out of budget, but if they ever come into budget please do trial them. I found both upgraded my speaker in the bass department to an unexpected and astounding level. In Munich Isoacoustics were demoing their ...
New Thread on Steve Hoffman website that says Audiogon sucks
I’m fairly new to Audiogon. There is much to like here but I find the downsides compared to other hi-fi forums are two fold:1. The propensity for click-bait thread titles, which would go away if people ignored them, but unfortunately the click-ba...
What Matters and What is Nonsense
DACs are mature technology and above the $800 point they pretty much all sound the same TO ME ftfy
What Matters and What is Nonsense
@glupson - interestingly when I was growing up in the UK in the 80s it was the opposite to the way you describe it. The hifi mags (apparently egged on by the then-almighty Linn) were suggesting it was wise to spend half on the source. I remember d...
Racks - what’s awesome without impacting my kids college plans?
I am not sure where you are from but Quadraspire, a UK manufacturer, make great value stands which sound terrific.  I'd also adding recommend buying a low price rack and spending some cash on some Townshend rack isolation corner feet.  They are am...
Best of the best Integrated amps in 2018
The Vitus SIA-025 is sublime. It isn’t being replaced by the SIA-030 as the above post suggests. Vitus has stated that it is one of their best-sellers and will not be replaced. The SIA-030 is an altogether bigger beast.
What Matters and What is Nonsense
I don’t know why I rise to the bait of these provocative posts, but I do. If the OP had just added a small caveat that this is his humble opinion then all would be well. But no, we have an objective position described, even down to scoring each el...
Beware the audio guru
I don’t think that is true. I experimented with different speakers and headphones and am now certain that the biggest factor in hearing Yanni or Laurel is the fidelity of the device you are listening on. The result is based on frequency response. ...
