SACD
I never wrote for a magazine. There are over 1.5 million women named Elizabeth in the USA alone. Two other Elizabeth who share my last name (not related) who bank at my bank!!!. So I would say no, I am not that person.Where I worked I used an unus...
Vinyl VS Digital
At this point why get rid of the records? You already kept them through the dark Winter of LP misery. The fact is if one changed their mind and wanted the LPs back, say in five years, They would cost you an arm and a leg. I can see if downsizing a ...
SACD
Yeah I passed over the whole surround thing. I am two channel!I can see for folks who like surround and have the setup it could be very exciting to hear.
Is this MQA news a big deal?
rbstehno,First off my $7000 will not be wasted. Years of enjoying all my already owned CDs await me. Even is I did ever decide to join the stampede to MQA, buying another decoder which can play it is no big deal. I know PLENTY of folks who wait to...
SACD
SACD are expensive. Used Cds can be had for a buck a pop at store like Half Price Books.I bought thousands of $1 $2 CDs there. You never see SACD used, and if so, they are very expensive. My experience is SACD typically have no background. No 'air' ...
To bridge or not to bridge ?
NO, you use the normal bi wire setup. Attach both positive and BOTH negative wires from amp to speaker. just leave in the strap on the speaker negative pair TOO.
To bridge or not to bridge ?
The reasoning is the connection keeps the two speaker parts in synch. rather than allowing the crossover parts to skew to timing. The neg strap brings them together. That is the reasoning i read on this tweak.
Finally took the Bryston 4B Cubed plunge
When I bought my Bryston preamp and amp 8 years ago, I really wanted a different preamp. A used ARC Ref 5, but the one I had available got missed (local) Anyway I wanted the amp, and bought the preamp kind of not caring. But I have to say the Brys...
Schiit not shipping
As long as Schiit is not charging the CC until shipping. No problem IMO.
Turning the volume up
The standard for consumer gear had been 0.5 volt output. So all phono, tape, FM radio gear was generally at the 0.5 volt output. And we all lived happy. Then came CD. And for some unknown reason, CD manufacturers decided to NOT use the consumer sta...
Term for an LP that is about the quality you'd expect to pull out of a dollar bin?
Depends what YEAR you were talking about.Back in the later 1990s. Early 2000s records in the ten cent bin could be mint and worth a lot. Now? they are all worthless, even the ones asking $20 a pop at some used stores. All the good (cheap) records ha...
How To Field Questions About Your Audiophile Lifestyle...
The number one question/comment from anyone seeing my speakers is: "You must like to play LOUD!" (they cannot connect anything except loud to big speakers.) I have never really had friends who also have audiophile tastes. When I retired and spent $...
To bridge or not to bridge ?
Years back a discussion of adding the one negative post bridge to biwired speakers to good effect.I used it and it did seem to improve the sound a little. I would suppose different speakers might have different levels of sound changes.
Finally took the Bryston 4B Cubed plunge
Also tangential, I spent $7000 on a Marantz SA-10 to get slightly better sound over a used paid $250 DAC I had. That is life in audiophilidom.I own a Bryston 4B-SST² and have had it for about 8 years now.I almost bought a pair of 7B3's.. but decid...
What Matters and What is Nonsense
After reading all so far, the only thing sticking in my head is the op thinks $5000 amps are ridiculous. The rest of it?Well yeah nothing can be done about the recording venue, the mics used, the way the album was mastered..Then you have Jazz recor...
