Cello Pallete/current high end pre
your Cello Pallete is a true classic worth MORE than when you bought it.So a word of advice is keep it.Make certain you are totally in love with your new preamp before you ever think of parting with you Cello Pallete.I think you are one lucky guy ...
Audio Research SP-11 MK2 ...
For classic equipment it is good.Compared to the new stuff at way more money? No it is not."Top class" no. it is no longer 'top class'It was made in 1985!! that is a pretty long time ago.I own an Audio Research Sp-15, the model after the Sp-11 whi...
Biwire speakers
I'm with Al on this one. Tons of posts about this issue. No compromises either all or nothing in most posts..I biwire becaue it is easy to do.Some like it , some do not.Is it worth it? I think so for me.Who knows if it is for anyone else???
How much for a slab of vinyl and some fake linen?
Answer: then do not buy it.And yes, they DO think we are idiots..... Unfortunately that has nothing to do with pricing. The reason for the higher price is limited production. Fewer copies mean more cost per copy.Any sort of product has the same kin...
3 identical fronts or dedicated CC
Do you want to sleep with your wife? Or sleep with the fishes? You gotta ask yourself....
15 amp vs 20 amp Power Cords
For audiophile aftermarket power cords. almost NOTHING.True a few of the designated 15 amp cords may not be able to carry as much current as some others, but in general all the aftermarket power cords are robust enough for 20 amps.(With one except...
"BEST USED" CD player or players at about $1000
BEST is one still in production. One you can get parts for.Way too many CD players are out of production, AND no parts to repair.A $1,000 doorstop is still just a doorstop.
3 identical fronts or dedicated CC
The identical center speaker is a waste of money. And will be stupid looking just like your wife says.Buy speakers with a dedicated center which matches the timbre of the main speakers, and fits above the fireplace.Just stop being an idiot...LOL(I...
Early digital recordings on vinyl vs. CD?
Just want to remind all about the once popular notion that digital Lps would destroy the bearings of turntables, as 'proven by certain folks back in the day..After much bruhah over it, turned out no bearings were ever hurt by digitally based LPs.T...
Explain Class A amp to non audiophile friends
A reasonable analogy could be:The transistor is like a lit path. The music is like shadows moving down this path.If the path is fully lit 100% of the time, then the only issue is the shadows moving, (music)in an AB amp, the light AND the moving sh...
AES/EBU, Digital or Coaxial Between Transport-DAC
Agree if you can, use an AES-EBU.It is the better connection.Only if you have some issues with grounds, or other electrical contamination, then the optical is good.Other wise use the AES-EBU.One added advantage cheaper AES-EBU cables are just as g...
Dedicating circuits and fancy power outlets
I ran a group of four sets of wires (two quad twist 12 gauge MilSpec silver plaated teflon insulated wire with separate pair of grounds betwwen the quads, tightly wrapped with teflon tape) from an islated 20 amp single outlet (it's own breaker) up...
how do you level a turntable?
I used 'Post It Notes'Just take a pad of Post It Notes and start peeling off layers... place a few here or there under some feet and after a little fiddling you too can have a level turntable.
Newbie to analog
(How can he 'retire'from music Well i had a work friend who got married. he decided to get rid of the system, as it was in the basement. I happened to be the only person he knew whom he though would be happy to get such a treat. And he and his wif...
Turntable Tonearm Lift Issue
Yeah tonearms which slide off to the side can be a PITA.Best is to just learn how to precompensate.PRACTICE with starting a bit over too far, and learn what it takes to land just right. If it is consistent, then you are gonna be fine.
