Cleaning vinyl with auto detailing clay
Cool! A few LPs ARE super problematic, and it is a good thing to have in ones arsenal of cleaning products. Thanks for the tip!
really? .89c ground lifters?
I have never had to lift a ground. Long ago, in an amp i put a switch to cut it when just fooling around, but it did not matter anyway. The only ground that has mattered is the ground wire from a turntable.I just have never had a ground loop. And I...
National Record Store Day is Apr 17th
I understand goodwill has LPs others may find attractive. I, however, have all the classical LPs I want (about 2,200) and had been working on my Jazz for a few years. Now I have about 1,700 Jazz LPs, and what I do not have, and actually want, is n...
Speaker cable to hook up a 12v AC trigger?
you can use any electrical wire, and is at least 24 gauge or bigger. It is just a simple pulse, it doesn't need anything fancy, just a common bit of insulated wire. for longer runs use at lease 20 gauge. Audiophile wire is not going to improve the...
Is my room doomed? Pic
An aside: waiting for 'breaking in': if the sound is not basically 90% or more there straight up, it's NOT going to magically arrive with breaking in. It IS true some benefit from use arrives after a bit of time, and the many gushing: "at first it...
National Record Store Day is Apr 17th
within fifteen miles I have four good used LP places I go to a lot. Add in CDs and it's eight stores for local used music that I go to. Let alone the rest I never bother, like no Goodwill anymore for LPs.... Add in the ones I ignore, it would add ...
Generally wise/unwise to mix metals in AC plugs?
Every wire, every connector, every circuit board, every capacitor lead, resistor lead, solder.. thousands of changes in metal formulation, drawn, cast, soldered, stamped...Copper, pure copper, various grades of cheap copper, Carbon, silicon, rare ...
Footers?
If you ask you must want some. How far away are the speakers, and what kind of floor does the equipment rack rest on. Some folks have had a concrete foot poured under the area the equipment rack sits on to make sure it does not get vibrations.
Okay I Bought the Magnepan 3.6's
I bought maggie 3.6 about the same time, end of Feb. I got a Bryston 4B-SST2 amp. exactly what i needed. The pre.. well, the Bryston is great with Lps but not Digital. i JUST today got a VAC Standard pre I bought here last week, and am swinging al...
Does anyone have advice on power cables?
Well, the hot new thing is Pangea. Super cheap and better than priced. Only one dealer so your gonna have to Google them cuz' I am not an info-mercial. Suffice to say i bought a lot. which is nearly twenty power cables 9 gauge: two 4 meter, two 3 ...
Should power cords for power amps be shielded?
The signal to an amp is pretty strong. i would not worry about shielding. The main place for it IMO is a Phono pre pre. Where you really want the ultimate clean power, and keeping the A/C wire coming in clean matters. For the rest, it depends on e...
Stylus Buildup?
Wax. Some cleaners dry up the pressing release agent, but do not remove it. So it is a dry, ultra thin layer of waxy (invisible until scraped) white stuff uniform on the surface. Your needle scrapes it off. It is no big deal. Change cleaning fluid...
Marantz 2325 Phono section
Almarg covers it perfect. Good luck. (as for quality the unit was made in 1970's when phono was everything... it is as good as a few hundred buck separate MM phono.. so your choice if you want to spend $300+ on a separate phono IMO)
Modernists Unite, or: saying no to room treatment
Thank you Barry, it helps to know some like what i write.
VAC Signature MKIIa pre-amp
My stuff is way less than yours, but i just bought a used VAC 'standard' from a fellow goN'er and await it's delivery. i am hoping for similar, though not as spectacular results from it.
