| What speakers use a "minimal" crossover? The Seas A23 kit uses a single capacitor, single resistor:https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/2-way-speaker-kits/seas-a26-10-2-way-kit-pair-based-on-the-cla...Of course, there are a number of "full range" designs which have zero electrical cross... | |
| Does impedance of a speaker change when one bi-amps? Forgot I have a blog post for this:https://speakermakersjourney.blogspot.com/2016/12/crossover-basics-impedance.htmlBest,E | |
| Does impedance of a speaker change when one bi-amps? Assuming the crossover is split, yes. So in a typical two way the tweeter impedance will go to infinity in the bass, and the opposite in the woofer. The impedance will rise to infinity in the treble. Of course, that "infinity" may be at 1 Hz and 1... | |
| Suggestions for Class D amplifiers with Marantz AV7704 and B&W cdm9nt combo for HT. @caphill Class D amps are also analog if I am not mistaken. Class D amps are binary, but not digital. Weird, right? They are not "digital" because they lack an Analog to Digital conversion stage, however, the output stage switches between on and ... | |
| Oppo 205 revelations, questions.. I saw some technical reviews on iFi purifiers that were decidedly mixed. They seem to be prone to a lot of noise. I can recommend the Wyred4Sound alternatives for high jitter sources and devices (Chromecast, AppleTV, etc.) | |
| Suggestions for Class D amplifiers with Marantz AV7704 and B&W cdm9nt combo for HT. Class AB is still the go-to choice? I was looking at the cabinet again - as a Class D choice is not my first choice - and I can install thermo-controlled fans in the cabinet to bring in cooler air and exhaust hot air... or I can leave the door... | |
| What is the most dramatic way of increasing a speaker's Bass and Low mid? Knowing the speaker helps. The balance is a touch bright. Try crossing the tweeters in front or behind your head. This will roll off the treble, as will tilting so you listen closer to the woofer axis. Again though, room acoustics matter. The per... | |
| Suggestions for Class D amplifiers with Marantz AV7704 and B&W cdm9nt combo for HT. NAD is using Hypex modules in their 7 (or is it 5?) channel amps, worth considering. Yes, they are very efficient but they still do about 7 watts / channel at idle, and under full load still waste ~10% of heat. Make sure you account for that! Best... | |
| High efficiency is critical. Try to find actual test results for sensitivity. The two Tekton speakers reviewed by Stereophile found that the actual sensitivity of the speakers was abut 6db (!) lower than advertised. This is not just a failure of Tekton, overrating sensitivit... | |
| Bypass capacitor position? @grannyring Nope, just in crossovers. :) Best,E | |
| Bypass capacitor position? I had a pair of the Duelund pure silver caps, eye watering expensive and... meh. Didn't really do a thing in my set up. If anything, I'd suggest sticking to copper and just using a very small version of the same. | |
| Speaker recommendation for Home Theater Monitor Audio’s Silver line is good, but the AMT tweeters in their Gold and Platinum line are not up to par. Why do you think so? Great tweeters disappear and do not call attention to themselves. What speakers do you feel have great tweeters ? | |
| What is the most dramatic way of increasing a speaker's Bass and Low mid? Of course, I forgot my usual advice: Better room acoustics. Smoother bass, more controlled mid/treble can greatly improve the tonal balance. My experience with 2-way systems is that properly used, bass traps can make them sound much larger and dee... | |
| Used audiophile preamp Take a listen to older conrad johnsons. Best,E | |
| Any good reasons to use transistor phono stage and line level preamp instead of tube ? Sound quality is different. Not better, just different. From a practicality standpoint, transistors trump tubes every day. Lower power, longer life, lower noise (usually) vs. tubes. Is a particular transistor phono pre better or worse to your ears t... |
