Beyond the sound of things, and into the soul of things.
Digitally remastered cassettes are an interesting medium. While not the last word in air and warmth they are a lot more analog-sounding than most CDs. Which i submit is evidence there’s something wrong with the CD playback machine, not with the CD...
Hey RICH Audiophiles
Hey, Wolf, glad to hear you finally got rid of your low end speakers and got some solid mid fi speakers. I bet you think you died and went to heaven.
Only you expensive cable owners, is this real?
Hilarious that some people consider outstanding high end companies like Mapleshade and PWB Electronics fringe. Give me a break! A rich audiophile has about as much chance of getting into Audio Nirvana as a camel has of passing through the eye of a...

CD Got Absolutely Crushed By Vinyl
Your ears are not analog or digital. But your brain is quantum mechanical.
CD Got Absolutely Crushed By Vinyl
Yes, you’re confused. Digital is a near perfect facsimile of the original waveform. It is not chopping up the sound, as you say. The problem with digital is not (rpt not) the recording or mastering for CDs. The real problem is the *playback machin...
CD Got Absolutely Crushed By Vinyl
You apparently don’t know how digital works. Digital has the potential for much higher dynamic range and much higher signal to noise ratio than analog can ever have. If you like your music compressed and noisy more power to you.

I think the real question here is who’s the one getting ripped off? 😬 But if you’re happy that’s what counts.

Digital is cheaper? Really? Since when? Pop quiz - If the recording is made digitally on digital tape isn’t that a REAL TIME REPRESENTATION OF A MUSICAL PERFORMANCE?
Beyond the sound of things, and into the soul of things.
Kudos should go to tape, the medium the recording was made on. Tape is a natural medium. It breathes. Vinyl is simply the neutral repository for the taped information.howver, as I opined recently imho there’s nothing really wrong with CDs per seco...
DeoxIT on tube pins
Deoxit is more than a cleaner. It “conditions” the metal surfaces. The problem is folks sometimes don’t wipe it off sufficiently after applying. Or are too aggressive in the application. Also, these cleaners and conditioners are nice but real cont...

The only thing keeping CDs from moving out and taking charge is the pernicious and tenacious background scattered laser light problem. Something wonderful is going to happen. 😳
Hey RICH Audiophiles
wolf_garcia4,528 posts01-26-2019 3:04amI think a system costing hundreds of thousands of dollars can still sound great. >>>>>Maybe. It might also sound like horse manure. You certainly can’t tell by just looking at it. Camel, eye of...
CD Got Absolutely Crushed By Vinyl
It’s very hard to prove the case for either CD or LP. Obviously some CDs of the same recording sound different on different releases, e.g., compression, remastering. Some CDs of the same recording apparently sound different from different countrie...
Which area of components to spend the most $ on? Boy I was wrong all my life!
If you’re having trouble hearing the difference between Correct Polarity and Inverted Polarity I suspect your system probably needs a tune-up. Inverted Polarity lacks bass and proper focus. Crossovers are a separate issue. How do you know your sys...
