New Rowland Criterion 2-chassis battery pre
Brazcole, I am new to remote controls. Until a couple of years ago I thought I would never use one. Than I started using the ARC Ref 3 and then the JRDG Capri pre. . . both with remote controls. . . and I quickly discovered that I love to use the ...
Advice for upgrading my current amp.
I'll drink to that VMAN! I use a Rowland 312 stereo amp as my reference, which is also based on the ICEpower 1000 ASP module, and couldn't be happier.
Advice for upgrading my current amp.
CCChung, at $7.5K to $10K there are many very good integrated amps. I am particularly fond of the Jeff Rowland Continuum 500. It is one of the most sophisticated implementations of ICEpower 1000 ASP technology on the market. Very refined sound, be...
New Rowland Criterion 2-chassis battery pre
That's great Brazcole. Right now firmware upgrade is done via a little programmer device that is connected inside the control unit chassis. Eventually all updates will be performed via the USB connector in the back of the control unit, so it will ...

Congratulations Brazcole. You will likely receive 2 milled Aluminum boxes tomorrow:1. An infrared remote control transmitter with all the buttons to control the Criterion.2. An infrared remote control receiver. The receiver is a little external bo...
SET vs ICE vs GAINCLONE vs HYBRID vs other?
Hi Don, best is to call the various manufacturers. Spectron, Bel Canto, and Rowland just to mention a few, all have dealer networks. Some dealers might even be able to arrange an at home demo. Other manufacturers sell directly to end customers and...
SET vs ICE vs GAINCLONE vs HYBRID vs other?
Don, a number of manufacturers are using switch mode power supplies in their class D amps because they are small, very fast, extremely energy efficient, and when properly executed yield wonderful musical results. Others are staying with traditiona...
SET vs ICE vs GAINCLONE vs HYBRID vs other?
Lcherepkai, switch mode amps like Rowlands, Belcanto, and probably W4S seem to take an inordinate amount of time to break in. I'd make sure they have about 1200 hours of playing time before doing critical listening. One more interesting thing abou...

How are Rowland digital amps for Vandies
I have received confirmation from the JRDG factory that just short of being capable of delivering absolutely ear-splitting sound pressure levels, the JRDG 102 amp will do very well on the Vandersteen 2C speakers. G.
Is too much power in an amp really a problem?
BlindJim, the W4S appears to have a slightly higher input impedance than the JRDG 102 (60.4KOhms vs 48KOhms). You might as well give W4S a try. Regarding your concerns for volume knob listening position, if you get a pre with a continuously rotati...
How are Rowland digital amps for Vandies
I have checkd with Rod Tomson at Soundings in Denver. he carries the Rowland 102 and is very familiar with the Vandersteen 2C speakers. As the 2C has a relatively high impedance of 7 Ohms and has a 1st order crossover with a recommended power hand...
Is too much power in an amp really a problem?
Jim, I just checked the manuals. The input impedance of the JRDG 102 is 48KOhms with a 27dB gain. The 250Wpc 201 monoblock has 40KOhms input impedance with user selectable 26db and 32db gain. Have not checked the W4S, but I suspect it's going to b...
