Dynavector cartridges, old and new Dynavector Ruby was the best cartridge I owned until the Accuphase AC-2. Superbly natural .... find one in good shape today and you have a keeper.
The truth about why modern music is so awful. Sorry for the error, but the article is an Op Ed piece in yesterday's Feb 7 New York Times. I can't provide a link because it is a "fee only" site. But a library paper will do.
Looking for the best Preamp with a phono circuit built in The Van Alstine would be a good choice. So would a used Audio Research SP6 series or SP8 if you want tubes, since AR located near you could update them and still come in at a reasonable cost. These have some of the finest sounding phono stages e...
The truth about why modern music is so awful. Interesting that the New York Times had a piece this last Sunday (Feb 3) about the "loudness wars" utilizing digital compression to "destroy" music. Been a long time since I saw anything about this in the mainstream press, much less a semi-techni...
Thiel owners please chime in. Don't know about 2.7's, but both my 2 2's sound better on the 8 ohm than the 4 ohm. Why, don't know given the impedance curve, although it does rise in the midrange/treble a bit.
Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD As others have said, get a really good cartridge. Yours is not. In the meanwhile, check your arm mounting geometrics.
Thiel Owners Just a note to point out that if you like 3.5's otherwise, four or five of them in a room eliminates any need for a sub while anything resembling recommended surround placement generally also eliminates bass room nodes.
Is the Last Record Preservative system a worthwhile investment? rodman99999 - I second the motion!
How important is it for you to attain a holographic image? It is a parlor trick, although I agree it can be pleasant on small combos (jazz, folk, chamber). You simply don't hear it with live music, even sitting close to a jazz combo. To create it is a matter of absorption and reflection .... I have crea...
Dynavector cartridges, old and new Back in 1980 I bought both a diamond and a ruby cantilevered Karat. Both were superb, but I prefered the ruby and sold the diamond. These were killer cartridges .... which I'd love to have today. Better than most MC's and equal to or better tha...
Thiel Owners tomthiel - hear, hear!
Is the Last Record Preservative system a worthwhile investment? I swear by it. Have used it on many of my records since 1967 or so when it first came to my attention. First I clean the record using LAST cleaner, then apply the LAST solution. The results, particularly on new records, is to completely elimina...
Discontinued equipment that you wish were still here. What do you miss or think will miss? @reubent - I still have the BT-2, use a a SS backup to my ARC SP6a (they have a very similar sonic signature). I had the bridged CC-2's only briefly back about 2002-3. My audiophile brother in law and I were completed wowed by the depth of field...
Discontinued equipment that you wish were still here. What do you miss or think will miss? Oops .... I forgot the Audionics BT-2 and a pair of CC-2 power amps.
Discontinued equipment that you wish were still here. What do you miss or think will miss? I agree with grsz06's list, but my all time favorite would be the JBL's with the D150 woofer and 175 mid-treble horn. Proably best for stereo in a pair of C-34 cabinets. |
