Preamp recommendation please..
Some people appear to find it a bit bright but the solid state ARC LS3 was a Stereophile Class A component that only listed for $1,200 back in the 90s and can be found for under $700 now.  They are superb.
power amp recommendation
Since you are open to Class D and depending on your price range, check out Wyred4Sound.  I own the ST500, and after having owned older power amps from Marantz, Parasound and McCormack,  I could not be more pleased.
Isolation Transformer - Use with Cheater Plug
Forgot to say that I do have Directv and audio is connected to the preamp via RCA jacks. So maybe a RCA ground isolation device is what I really need.
Isolation Transformer - Use with Cheater Plug
Thx again. And the humor went over my head - I have no idea what you are talking about :)Jea48 - Yes, without the cheater plugs and even inserted into the same outlet I get the hum. I replaced a Parasound with a McCormack power amp and that starte...
Isolation Transformer - Use with Cheater Plug
Thanks for the responses. I originally had the pair plugged into the same outlet with the cheater plugs. (I did not have this problem until I replaced my previous power amp.) Without the cheater plugs, the hum is very loud.Sorry to still be confus...
Budget Subwoofer?
The older NHT SW2 and SW3 are very musical subs that might be found for under $300. These were sold with their own detached amplifier as they were passive subs. So please keep that in mind when pricing them.
Personal amp evolution
GE Stereo built to look like component receiver.Pioneer integrated amp - SA8100 (I have had it since 1975 and can't bear to part with it though it no longer works.)A couple of different Pioneer receivers (probably a step back in retrospect.)Marant...
Preamp Switching to Mono
Thank you Rwwear,Yes I was using a "y" running the second pair into a Behringer electronic crossover that has a separate subwoofer output but only the one input. Can you think of a way around my dilemna short of selling the Behringer and springing...
Power Amp-Cross Over-Subwoofer
Thanks Tuong,I ended up getting a Beringer x-over for $85 plus the cost of RCA-XLR adaptors:)
Volume Control-Power Amp-Subwoofer
Thanks Jab that does help. Now I will research crossovers. I have two mono blocks that I want to bridge and use for power if I can. From what I understand, I have to make sure the subs impedance isn't too low for the bridged amps.
Personal amp evolution
Pioneer SA8100 integrated which I then used the preamp of to drive an used Marantz 1040 power amp. Now have Marantza MA500 power amps. Have also had Pioneer and Technics receivers at various times in the past.h
Onkyo VS Onkyo Integra
Thanks for the additional responses. It sounds like the Integra series probably is worth the extra bucks although from what I have read, most people like the regular Onkyo series anyway. Guess I will base my decision on how soon I think I will hav...
Onkyo VS Onkyo Integra
Thanks for the responses. Although there is a separate Integra company, Onkyo still supplies the local audio/video store with something described as Onkyo/Integra. They are about $100 more list than the comparable Onkyo. I don't know about the reg...
SACD/DVD-AUDIO vs Technics SH-AC500D Compatible?
Thanks for the responses. What is confusing me, is that in the descriptions of some of the receivers, they mention 192 KHZ/24 bit DACs. Since the Technics doesn't decode the 96 KHz signal, and now manufacturers are including 192 KHZ DAC, I am thin...
Snell C/V Speaker Question
Thanks for the responses. If I don't trade I will check out the Alons. Also, the person who sold me the Maggies says he is looking into the Axioms.
