DIN or RCA phono plug--which is 'better'?
Nsgarch:I don't work within the EU, so I cannot claim to know the DIN data books inside and out. But I do work with a company who manufactures the actual tonearm connectors (and supplies various tonearm and cable manufacturers with same). Absolute...
RE: set up tips for Cello Reference mc cartridge
BTW, I found the 9 to be unusually sensitive to VTF. Too little and you get huge amounts of needle talk, too much and the sound loses stereo spread and the phase seems to get screwed up.hth, jonathan carr
DIN or RCA phono plug--which is 'better'?
Nsgarch:I have not been able to find mention of any such connector in either the DIN or JIS standards. Ditto according to my manufacturing sources in Japan (who just call it "tonearm connector").I believe that it is a misuse of the term. Probably ...
DIN or RCA phono plug--which is 'better'?
The tonearm connector isn't a DIN, nor is it even a JIS. It is something which appears to have been designed as a tonearm-specific electrical connector. I believe that the company that designed it was called Denon Parts (no relation to the other m...
RE: set up tips for Cello Reference mc cartridge
As far as I know, one of the Ikedas was sold for a time under the Jeff Rowland brand, maybe there was also a Cello version? If Daren's cartridge (whatever the brand is) is a cantilever-less MC, it would have been designed by Ikeda rather than Taked...

A quick visit to the Stereophile website shows that they _have_ reviewed ZYX cartridges. At the very least they've reviewed the ZYX R-1000 Airy S, because they provide a link to an online review (done by Art Dudley in May 2004). Go to "Equipment R...
Amplifiers To Use With Lumenwhite Speakers
Hi:Using a White Flame, I've had good results with Tom Colangelo/Paul Jayson's designs - originally the Cello Performance, and later the Viola Bravo. But keep in mind that these amps have enough power to fry the drivers if one is not careful. On o...
Does size really matter? :-
Armstrod, I believe that some of the dimensions that you originally quoted refer to different things - the diamond shank (block) in the case of the Dynavector, as opposed to the stylus radii for ZYX.The shank is what the diamond is cut out of, and...

The diameter of the wire is also a component in deciding the sound, so rather than using the thinnest possible wire, a cartridge maker is likely to use whatever wire diameter that he (or she) thinks will give the right sound. In production you can...

That ain't technical background, that's marketing speak :-).Again, both the Eminent and Ortofon SPU Synergy (you can find these on the cartridgedb.com site) have a 1.8-ohm coil impedance and produce 0.5mV (measured at 5cm/sec). If we apply the sqr...

The real reason for the increased output vs. impedance is a new core material (around which the coils are wound). This material was introduced by MySonic Labs' Matsudaira (formerly of Audiocraft) on his Eminent cartridges from a few years back.One...
