Loud popping sounds after warm-up
I'm with Randy. I'd be looking for failing caps.
What 2 channel Amp would you Buy for $6k?
Did I completely miss where the OP said what speakers he's driving? If he never mentioned that, how exactly are people making these ardent recommendations? There's a hell of a difference between how a Mc and a Classe drive a pair of loudspeakers. ...
What makes you build a system around an amplifier?
I don't think I could ever bring myself to buy speakers based on an amp I owned. A big part of that is that I find it vastly easier to tailor an amp to a pair of speakers. Speakers prefer something between an ideal current source and an ideal volt...
PADIS vs Furutech fuses
I didn't expect there would be any takers. Surprise, surprise.
Can I use 3 pin DMX cables instead of XLR?
intentions@toolarmy here. Listening to Ticks and Leaches at the moment through a restored Marantz, a Pass F5 clone, and Focal 936's.
Cable Survey
As for my response to the question..I don't have buckets of cash to throw at audio gear and potential snake oil. Consequently, I build and work on things. I pondered the matter of cables for a good while leaning towards snake oil more than truth. ...
Cable Survey
@mmrkaic  Dear god just shoot me in the face now. I can't believe I'm about to defend Geoffkait. If you don't think cables make a difference I appeal to a well regarded authority on matters of audio engineering: Nelson Pass. He seems to be of the o...
Can I use 3 pin DMX cables instead of XLR?
You can try it. Won’t hurt anything. Typically audio cables are designed with some capacitance and lower impedance because the impedance translates to inductance which dulls higher frequencies. Small amounts of capacitance aren’t as noticable to l...
Modifying my Mark Levinson 332 for a unique visual experience
I think somebody is smoking crack to fault you for doing the fine job you've done on that amp! That looks way better than paint!
Sonic Tonic fom the Tweek Geek
@geoffkait How's that violet pen measure?
Bridge Rectifier for the heater 300b tube amp
Can I just point out that if you need to ask the questions posed you probably shouldn't be building rectifiers? In all reality, if you want the best, most stable rectification, you want tube rectifiers.
Swapping W4S to Pass Labs XA- worth it?
The numbers I tossed out there are what Pass Labs published on their website for XA30.8. I'm just talking from the experience of having built a Pass F5 and used it with not wildly dissimilar speakers. When I had that thing biased at 1.1 amp it cli...
Swapping W4S to Pass Labs XA- worth it?
Not sure where this 30kR input figure is coming from, but the 30.8 is 50kR in SE. Beyond that, I have a difficult time suggesting someone buy a class A amp and operating it in class AB a significant portion of the time. We're talking about an amp ...
Bridge Rectifier for the heater 300b tube amp
A fully discreet rectifier can be built to smooth and filter the power. Is it worth the hassle? A lot of people think not. It's the way to go if you want the most ideal rectification possible. Some like fast diodes. Some like slow. Some want to tu...
which direction?? - HARMONIC TECH - TRUTH LINK INTERCONNECTS
Well, there's also the nonsense that wire is extruded through a die. I mean, it is, at a fairly massive gauge, but anything under 12g solid wire is run through an extensive series of drawing mills that stretch the wire. Once it's been drawn down t...
