Speaker glare...help
What CD players did you try?Not to doubt you, but almost all "glare" type issues start with sibilance from poor CDPs. Tweaks and cables (at best) are just bandaids and you will end up wasting your money if you expect a cheap solution like that.Unl...
Impressed with Tubes
Atmasphere,Not sure if your reference is to Steve McCormack (ie. mfg of transister amps), but I know he also recently tried the autoformers to very good success. I think he is going to use them at CES and promote their use on his website, so I don...
Shanling CDT 100 - considering adding a DAC
You could have it modded, but make sure it is done right.I had my SACD Shanling seriously modded awhile back and it was well worth the money (i.e. No wishes to further upgrade since then, even after hearing EMMlabs and others first hand). That bein...
Best and Worst sound at the CES Show 2004
I agree with Keithr. The Vandersteen/Joule room was very impressive. In fact, many rooms mentioned in this thread I agree with. Purist seemed like it had some room issues in the bass, but otherwise was excellent. Wilson and VTL stuff may not alway...
Help me decide b/w a Stealth XXX or a BPT 2.5
Sammie, I doubt you'll need to "grab another AM conditioner" for your Ayre products since they are already designed to negate AC problems. Many times, the perceived effectiveness of an AC conditioner is actually an indictment of the components con...
Best equip stands
So...if I follow correctly...an audio stand experiences mechanical break-in which signficantly improves the sound of the equipment sitting on it after 4 days because:1. Automobiles experience break-in2. Cables burn-in3. The End Pin for a Cello cau...
Best equip stands
Stehno...I don't really follow you, but you're absolutely right.."I cannot attribute any experiences to mechanical break-in improvement"...That's why I asked the question... I'm pretty darn certain no one can, since it doesn't exist or would be cl...
Best equip stands
The automobile "break-in" in the first 500 miles you refer to cannot be related to an audio equipment rack. Automobile "break-in" is actually a misnomer if called that. You're talking about a complicated device with fluids, many moving parts, cons...
Best equip stands
Stehno...I think I may have asked this before...I'll try again since I must've missed the reply...What is this "mechanical break-in" you're talking about? Are you seriously implying that an equipment rack changes molecular structure everytime you m...
Power cord to add ease and tame treble.
Like a few have mentioned... A power cord is not going to solve your problems. Here's part of what I think your problem is...Your preamp is not a good match for your amp. I believe Stereophile reviewed your preamp and the most useful part of those ...
I need help selecting speaker cables
Unless you want/need your cables to be tone controls, then (with few exceptions) it shouldn't matter what associated equipment you are using. In particular, I see no reason why the associated power cords makes any difference in what speaker cables...
Selecting Monitors for the First Time
Why change to a monitor? Most would be a significant downgrade from your Vandersteen's anyway, especially since you're "happy" now. Sure, you're going to get alot of responses saying XYZ Monitor is the best ever and how they miraculously have the ...
Tube Pre-Amp with Low Gain
Try some of the ARC models. I know the LS-25 has switchable gain. Some of their other models have low gain too.
Preamp for Upgraded McCormack DNA-225
Actually, you are right about the RLD. I forgot about the strictly RCAs.As for the BAT, that would be a good choice too based on my limited experience. It is very well made and has a nice character that should work well with most amps. The LS-5 tho...
Preamp for Upgraded McCormack DNA-225
For balanced, find a used ARC LS-5 and consider yourself very lucky and done.I've seen Steve Huntley at GNSC sometimes have one for sale, and he would be a good one to talk with if you need more info.Frankly though, I would make sure you weren't g...
