U.S. Symphony Orchestras
Very interesting thread. I cannot be impartial here, being a professional orchestral musician, however I also want to maintain relative anonymity here so I can feel more free to post on these kinds of topics, so I will not go into specifics too mu...
Some tables have soul and some not
Orpheus10 - "classical music has no soul." In the words of John McEnroe - "YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!!!" That just might be the most absurd thing I have ever read on these forums. Not to mention the irony of someone calling themselves Orpheus being th...
How Do You Pronounce Thiel?
Hi Meinhard - just because three words would be spelled the same in a phonetic alphabet (which I do not dispute, by the way), does not mean that they are not pronounced differently. A phonetic alphabet is just a starting point, not an end result. ...
Speltz anti-cables and Vandersteens.......
Adam, for me, yesterday's football meant watching Barcelona defeat Malaga. Great goals!
Fed up with people making noise at classical shows
Rok2id said "The American Orchestras don't record anymore. I look at my LPs and they are all NY, Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston and Cleveland. My CDs are almost all European. I think for a few decades after the war we had the best, but then greed r...
Speltz anti-cables and Vandersteens.......
Hi Adam - I have always wondered about those cables myself. Please continue posting about them!
Upgrade from Rega P5
I would agree with Dayglow, if you must buy a new table. The P9 certainly exceeds the performance of a great many tables costing quite a bit more.
Do you believe in Magic?
Bryon and Al, just saw this thread. Fascinating and informative. You two, along with Atmasphere, have taught me more on this site than anyone. I always look forward to your observations and comments.
Top 10 Jazz recordings ever
I have to chime in here and again stick up for Wynton Marsalis. He is very well respected in the music world not just for his impeccable technique but also for his musicianship. He takes the same bad rap in the jazz world that someone like Alfred ...
Rega P5 vs RP6 purchasing dilemma
Hi Vortrex - I guess another thing I was trying to say is that I personally wouldn't spend time and money "upgrading" a product. While I realize a great many people in this hobby like to do it, I am not a tweaker; I prefer to buy something that al...
Back In the Day
Amen, Frogman, amen. There is very little discussion of music and musicians on this site, for that matter. There is more on the asylum, but they have a dedicated forum for it. I have always wondered why there wasn't one here. Of course, even when ...
Upgrading from Rega Apollo to Rega Saturn CD??
I like my Apollo, but I know alot of others who have upgraded to the Saturn and like it. I have also heard good things about the DAC. If you do try one of those, let us know what you think!
some home theater advice please
Hi Wemfan - you might consider a good AVR. I used to use a Harmon Kardon, but now I have my plasma separate from my audio system. You will also need to have a phonostage for vinyl unless there is one built in to your preamp.
Rega P5 vs RP6 purchasing dilemma
I agree Nanbil - Regas are very well designed and built. I have never had even a hint of an issue with my P5. Too many audiophiles think that cost=performance. Me, I judge by what I hear, not by what I see. Rega's design works very well. Vortrex, ...
Classical Record Labels and Recording Engineers...
Great thread, just saw it for the first time. A couple of thoughts - I agree that some Columbia's are great, some are not. Someone told me once that Columbia did not use the same RIAA curve as everyone else all the time, and alot of the ones that ...
