Signal degration over length, source vs. output ?
Generally longer speaker wires are better than longer interconnects. What distances we're talking about? Where is your stand and where is your speakers?
Fun with audio
I've never seen such an expencive diamond toothpick as Lyra Helikon but surely comfortable to hold! OOPS diamond tip got stock in my tooth-hole!!!
How do you get past the pops and hiss of LPs?
Folks who say to get CDs are partially right. It's realy easy to built a nice sounding system arround CD-player where you can use pocket one with line-out connected to the Grado Headphone system and it will sound nice and this is where you can't do...
Most "Non-Digital" Sounding CDP
The most of dissapointment of so-called the most analogue device may come after looking-up inside the box finding simple cheap DAC-chips(can't be expencive by default as generic production units) and CD-Rom drive unit. The analogue domain after-D...
upgrading Rogue 88 vs monoblocks
As far as I heard, Magnumizing may rise reliability issues.
mmf-5 arm adjustment
That's the trouble with MMF. You realy can't.If Regas can go away with arm-spacers(to increase VTA), for MMF can't tell you if it will work.To decrease VTA you can use plastic spacers between cartridge and armshell thus playing between margins of ...
Modifying BAT VK-60s
Belden is a good wiring. I'm not familiar with capacitors inside BAT amps but "nothing special" to the coupling caps shouldn't realy mean you need to replace them. As to AudioNote caps you can find much cheaper solution but for now if I were satis...
Anyone use a Belles 150A to drive a difficult load
I used it as loaner with Vandy 1C. Couldn't stand it for more than 10min. The absence of tonal balance everytime present in Belles will not certainly provide timbral accuracy. As to bass it's so shallow that many tube amps of half-power will do it...
Is it the tube pre or the rca/xlr adapter?
Transfering from unbalanced to balanced often reduces nearly the normal input impedance of the next component hence the cut-off of the high freequencies may take place especially having in mind already high output impedance of EAR phonostage.
What was your greatest epiphany?
When couple of days ago on the great performance and talk-show I got an autograph from my favourite female singer Nina Hagen on the rarest record I possess "Revolution Ballroom" just next to her beautiful photograph UUUHa!
How many quality interconnects to I need ?
Fredman,These topics appear here every day. The quality of interconnects realy doesn't depend on price. The pricey ones just look nice but offer nearly the same as RadioShack Gold or generic Monster ones. If you apply some little DIY skills you ca...
How do you get past the pops and hiss of LPs?
Kevin,You don't have to get a multi-kilobuck analogue rig to have your records sound quiet.I set up to my nephiew an analogue with cheap Dual turntable $20 from ebay, $20 Audiotechnica cartridge bought new right after the turntable, "amputated" au...
Which amp to use?
Seems like a situation for bi-amlification.If you have dual binding posts in your speakers, you should remove built-in crossover and get an electronic one.Extra amp and extra electronic crossover will certainly rise the cost of system significantl...
How do you get past the pops and hiss of LPs?
I recently grabbed from the janitor's basement a huge oldies collection with albums from 60's and played it on my Michell. They looked ugly but sounded with very small surface noise only at the beginning and almost nothing was heard in the middle ...
Manley Purist Preamp
1. Check tubes2. Check with manufacturer if you need to re-bias(sometimes preamps need it too in case they haven't a stable power supply inside) and bring it to a technician for such.
