Distortion with ARC Ref 150 and Maggie 3.7
Al,IIRC, that is exactly the result ARC described. In my post above I suggested that the OP try to find an earlier thread on the subject of ARC amps that behave this way. In that thread, there was a long, technical debate as to how power output co...
Distortion with ARC Ref 150 and Maggie 3.7
I haven't read thru this long thread so I apologize if this has already been posted:Some ARC amps cannot take a single need output into their XLR input without major issues. Per ARC, They lack a phase splitter and require true balanced signal in. ...
How do Ohm Walsh speakers compare to Maggies?
Zeljoh,To amplify on Mapman's comments, the original Walsh designs used exotic cones that were very expensive to manufacture and were SPL limited. The current drivers are more conventional, cheaper to build and go louder. Some believe that SQ was ...
Your last concert was to see who and when?
Thank for the review, Notec.
How do Ohm Walsh speakers compare to Maggies?
Per my above post, I rotate Ohm and Maggies in the same system.
Small room....treating 1st reflection points
IME, absorptive and/or diffusing treatments at the first reflection points can help with high frequency problems. As you go lower in frequency, these devices become less effective. Below 100hz or so, Hemholtz resonators are the only reliable treat...
Audiophile music
As a general rule, I tend to listen to lo-fi program material in my car or on Sonos (parties, yard time, etc). That's actually a large majority of my listening time. When I'm in front of a good system, I tend to choose better sounding program mater...
Your last concert was to see who and when?
Notec,If you don't mind posting, how was the Ferrar show? All acoustic, all electric, or a mix?UT, Son Volt, solo material, or a mix?Just kinda curious.TIA.
Do distortion 's affect enjoyment of speaker?
If you're using the word "distortion" broadly:Some waveform distortions may be more objectionable to a given individual than other waveform distortions. A different individual may have the reverse preference. In some cases, minor distortions may b...
Bowie documentary
Sorry - that must have gotten clipped from the header. The movie is called "Five Years".
Your most disappointing purchase or audition?
Other than reliability/service issues (decomposing surrounds on Zingali speakers and horrible Audible Illusions repair service come to mind) I don't hink that I've ever bought anything that I later really regretted (and I have bought a lot over th...
Cary 805 vs 211 amp
Joey, I think that the 211 is a push-pull design, right? If so, it's no surprise that Cary sees a better match for that speaker load with the 211 than it sees with the single ended 805.
Speaker Sensitivity Question...
Per Al's remark, my understanding is that the sensitivity specification is usually for a 300hz or 1khz input signal, so a sub wouldn't affect that (either way). Moreover, even if that weren't the case, I'd think that a properly designed speaker sh...
Beloved?
This is why you should never buy a "previously owned" ported loudspeaker. You just never know.
Fleetwood Mac
Ghost,I actually don't own that recording (it's one of the few FM recordings that I missed), but I do remember that Jeremy Spencer was notorious for his "stand-up schtick" (including musical impersonations - Elvis was a favorite at one time) at ea...
