What can anyone say about Quarter Wavelength transmission line enclosure design ?
Bingo! Exactamundo! Pre-internet days!
Brilliant Pebbles, a new tweak, cheaper than high end cables.
I honestly do not understand why his work isn't getting the recognition it deserves. I mean, The Teleportation Tweak!  This is pure gold:  What does the Teleportation Tweak sound like? By attenuating the deleterious effects of the particular Info...
What can anyone say about Quarter Wavelength transmission line enclosure design ?
I came across a design for a 10" TL back in 1981 that I built using the 10" woofer from my JBL L-26 speakers. The result was a lot bigger than the JBL speakers, roughly 14" wide, 20" deep and 48" tall and heavy being made of 1" HDF. But they had M...

So FEQ, HFT Wide Angle and HFT 2.0 all about the same cost.Which to do first?
Do you ever do this before you listen?
What I do before I listen: turn on amp to warm up. Pour a beverage. Why would I want to mess with my ears just before I want them to be nice and relaxed? The lengths some dealers will go to get an edge on the rubes.

I sometimes wonder, do people bother reading any more? Or is it why bother, when reading in (ie, just making stuff up) is so much more fun?Oh well, the words are still there, for anyone who cares to bother to try and understand their literal meani...
New Scout 1.1 with hum issues, kind of fixed?
Anything less than perfect contact can introduce hum. Just one of a long list of possibilities, but it is on the list, so might as well check it off.Clean thoroughly with ordinary rubbing alcohol. Sounds decidedly low-tech but that is what Keith H...
Unexpected Tom Petty "stamper" discovery
Yeah well and looking back now I can see why. Price inflation has so distorted thinking we look at $7 and it feels like nothing. But $7 back then was not nothing! It was more like five times the minimum wage. So in other words, in order to get an ...
Unexpected Tom Petty "stamper" discovery
Thinking about this got me curious, don’t want people thinking I’m cheap or a tightwad or anything. So I looked it up. Even worse than I thought. A new album in 1976 was $7! No wonder I was so picky. Those things were even more expensive than I th...
Unexpected Tom Petty "stamper" discovery
In 1976 I was a Cougar freshman when another dormie started flipping out gushing about how he had discovered The Next Big Thing who he guaranteed was going to be the most prolific performer in rock for the next 10, 20 years at least. Well it was a...

Fremer with a cheap torque wrench? As if. No, it was as high-end spendy as everything else in his lair. And read what I wrote again. He didn't trust it. He was TOLD to trust it. And so, dutifully following instructions, he destroyed a very valuabl...

How right you are, David! For what seemed like forever we were stuck in the rut of only measurements matter. Budding audiophiles had mostly Stereo Review with their Julian Hirsch constantly pushing his only measurements matter mantra. This was so t...

Listen to Michael Fremers story about destroying a many thousand dollar cartridge with a torque wrench. He has never overtightened and only did so because he was told to trust the wrench. My hands and his are far more reliable. YTMV.I've swapped p...

Had a chance last night to try out the HFTs. Anyone coming in late may want to take a minute, scroll up, and read my OP. There's a whole lot compressed into that one early sentence, "within a year I had heard for myself what vibration control can ...

I read somewhere that Benny Goodman performed live to more people than anyone else, ever. Or Duke Ellington. Not in monster stadiums like today but clubs with a few hundred to a few thousand at a time. Night after night, 6 nights a week, 50 weeks ...
