Paradisea, Airport Express and Denon 2910
Thanks Edo. I appreciate that info. Does anyone know whether the Paradisea would improve the performance of a Denon 2910? My guess is that it would, but wondering if anyone has first-hand experience. Does the Paradisea allow you to switch betw. To...
Cowboy Junkies-Trinity Revisited...In deed
Thanks for the heads up. I didn't know there was a new release. I'll have to pick it up. Margo's voice is absolutely mesmerizing. Lay It Down and The Caution Horses are two of my faves, but if you haven't heard Early 21st Century Blues, give it a ...
Musical Fidelity XLPS What cartridge would work?
The X-LPS does the basic stuff really well. It doesn't buzz. It doesn't hiss. As a matter of fact, it's dead quiet. And it looks pretty sweet. But when you get the itch to bring your vinyl to the next level (to make things come alive), the first t...
Musical Fidelity XLPS What cartridge would work?
Ron, I owned an X-LPS not too long ago. I may be wrong, but I don't think there's a "best" cartridge for it. I was using a Denon DL-160 for a while which sounded fine. When I moved to a Denon DL-103, I lost a huge portion of the low end. I don't k...
Integrated thingy
I must have been having a bad day when I started this post. As much as I want to simplify and de-clutter, I can't imagine letting go of my amps and TVC. I really like their synergy. They offer something very warm and realistic. However, I'm thinki...
budget power conditioner
I've had great results with a PS Audio Quintet. I live in an old apartment with knob and tube wiring and no ground. I have two restaurants a floor below me and refrigeration units a floor above. You couldn't ask for a worse situation in this hobby...
Looking for speakers with soundstage depth
Tim, I had an experience recently you might be interested in. I picked up a pair of speakers that were quite a bit larger than my previous set. The bass was overwhelming which really clouded the midrange and skewed the whole presentation. I knew t...
Best recordings to demonstrate soundstage?
02-25-08: OjgalliI have a number of the recommended recordings, but I don't understand how studio recordings could demonstrate soundstage. Studio recordings have no real soundstage. If there is any, it's only an artificially simulated one. This is...
Best recordings to demonstrate soundstage?
A follow up to my suggestions above... Ry Cooder, Mickey Hart, An Evening with Windham Hill Live, and Aerial Boundaries are some of the best recordings I've ever heard. They'll make any system sound fantastic. The dynamics are stunning.

Selector switches?
John Chapman at Bent Audio carries excellent Shallco switches. Michael Percy and Parts Connexion have a wide selection.
Budget amps.
What preamp and speakers are you using? If you're patient, you might find a used Outlaw in your price range, but if you want something now, look at Parasound and Rotel. They offer a great bang for the buck. The 140 watt Parasound HCA-1205A might n...
Integrated thingy
Thanks Newbee. I appreciate the info. The Cayin is more in line with what I can afford. I was trying to stay at 100 watts, but I may not get everything I want. I wonder why their website says power output is 100 watts. Are there different models?
Integrated thingy
There's more out there than I was aware of. I appreciate all of your suggestions. Timrhu, you're right. I'm not ready to get off the merry-go-round, but I want to start eliminating cables, boxes and clutter. That was the main focus of my rant, but...
Would a heavy hand on the volume blow my 845s
I had the same urge years ago when I was driving an old Corvette. Some roads begged me to hit the accelerator. The speedometer went up up up. I eventually turned a bearing and had to have the engine rebuilt. It was an expensive mistake. Go with yo...
