Beryllium-Copper: How safe?
Geez, I have a set of beryllium copper golf irons that I don't use, maybe I should visit e-bay.As stated in Albert's reference, it is my understanding that some years ago, stricter environmental controls increased costs related to manufacturing it...
Cable Burn In Problem
If these are new cables, and if the mfg did not burn them in, you are right 50-100 hours is probably the minimum range to even begin to give them a fair shake. Since you say "trying out," I assume you are auditioning these. If from a dealer, see i...
How LONG have you been an AUDIOGONER'?
10-18-99 - lots of good folks here, old and new.
Good Copper IC's for 2.5M RCA pre to amp?
Thanks again Blindjim - you have given me several to look at.Bill, I agree with you and have noticed no sonic difference between my 1M ic's from preamp to amp, and the 2.5 to 3M ic's I am currently using.BTW, I meant to say above,"virtually none o...
Good Copper IC's for 2.5M RCA pre to amp?
Thanks guys so far.Tweak1: Not sure how much signal loss is associated with a 3M run, but Vladamir at Lamm did not think that would be any problem with the LL2, and it certainly was not a problem with the CAT Ult MkII or my Lector Zoe. I am runnin...
Your last speaker?
About 25 years ago I purchased my first "expensive" speakers, the ADS L810's that I enjoyed for almost 20 years. After then going through a few B&W's and some Alon's, I decided to try another Mike Kelly design and I have been very happy with m...

CARDAS Fans: Golden vs. Neutral vs. Presence?
I have used all but the GP, and my opinion would be in most sytems the GR IC's and the GC speaker cables hit the sweet spot. They sound good, but I currently use all Purist wire if that tells you anything.
Upgrade Options for BPT Pure Power Center
After looking at your system, I would suggest you may want to reconsider and go for the CPC or one of the BP units. I recently purchased a CPC that has most of the offered upgrades including a 300VA LoNo balanced isolation transformer for 2.5 amps...
Conditioner for Cary MB500 Monoblocks
Hi Rich, I am late to this party, but thought I would add that I too run Aerial 9's with Cary 500MB's. I am currently running mine single ended with a Lector CDP7 TL MkIII and Lamm LL2. I just picked up a loaded BPT CPC that has a 30-amp high curr...
I walked into a dealer and got a shock....
You ever hear the story about the frog and the scorpion - same thing, except he's a salesman....don't take it personal, just play the game.Response #1 - "lets get the turntable fixed first, then we can talk about some of your ideas for changes to ...
Calypso owners, what did you trade up to?
I have tried more than a few, and preferred the Tom Evans Vibe and Pulse, CAT Ultimate MkII, VTL 5.5, and my current Lamm LL2. I will qualify by saying I used the Calypso with a McCormack DNA500, which is not an ideal amp for the Calypso due to it...
Preamp Turned Down/Amplifer Noise
Sounds like it, but you do not provide enough information. Is this a new development or has the hum always been there in this system? Is there a television, cable or satellite connected to this system? Did this condition start after adding a new c...
Pre- output impedance for ss input impedance 10K
I have had this situation, and the common general rule of thumb is for the "maximum" output impedance of your preamp to be no greater than one-tenth the input impedance of your amp, or in your case 1,000 ohms. However, please note two things;1. th...
Tube CD player w/ balanced output
Maybe this will help:CD128 vs. CD168 on paper"One BB 1738 DAC chip vs. two BB 1792s. 24/96 vs. 24/192 upsampling. Sony KSS-213Q vs. Philips VAM 1202 top-loading transport. Balanced output stage vs. fully balanced circuit beginning at the converter...
