Modestly priced bookshelf speakers for cabin.
Thanks mrdecibel. I tried this briefly with a B&W sub that I had but it was just a muddy rumble. But now I'm pretty sure I did something wrong. Gave the B&W back to its owner. builder3, good info. I asked this same question in another thre...
Tower vs Similar Bookshelf?
Thank you. That makes sense. I was looking for bookshelf to keep the cost down but in truth, for this application, a tower would be easier to position. So with that and the advantage of better bass the $100 might be worth it.

Okay, here is a dumb question: How do you hook a powered sub to a 1980's era receiver? It has 'record out' via RCA and it has two banks (A/B) of speaker connections. There is no other line out. No Sub out of course.

Sound stage is not a big consideration for me in this application so that might not be an issue. Here is a question about the Klispch (and probably other brands as well): Klipsch makes a  floor standing (tower type) speaker that have one tweeter an...
$10k Speaker Cables??????????????
I guess everyone is different about money. And it is always easy to look into someone else's situation and criticize it because it doesn't fit our own outlook. There is the idea that if you have tons and tons of money then blowing it on $10,000 or ...
Is it time to just quit?
Last night I got into the moving things around rut. Moved listening position around a bit. Each time it was like "oh, that's better" but after a couple or more moves I realized it was just different. Primarily the sound stage, nothing else changed...
I like my system flat, no tone controls, no eq..........what is your preference, and why.
From reading responses here it does not sound to me like there is any consensus on what the term "flat" means.I also don't see a real riff between purist and not-purist. What comes out of our speakers is a reproduction and that is all it will ever...
What is the purpose and function of a pre-amp in audio sound and production?
I'm going to step way out of my depth here and also add that a passive pre-amp is basically just a system to switch between inputs and pass that signal on to the amp. No gain added. Is that correct?
Whats playing on your system today?
Steely Dan-Gaucho, CD. The production quality is so good I even like the songs I don't like. ;-)
Drink of choice for serious listening?
Dalwhinnie is good stuff. Haven’t had that in a while. Need to try it again. Seems like it was reasonably priced.
No Remote for AR LS-16.
Thanks. I've got one. The problem, which is s small one, is that the Harmony remote will only change inputs in one direction of the knob and it will not activate any of the four switches that control power, standby, processor input or monitor inpu...

@czarivey I don't think they mean the dimension of the soundstage when they say "flat".@mrdecibel I always feel like I need to tell people that my system is 'inherited' because  it would probably seem weird (to people who didn't know) that someone...

I have to admit that at that price there isn't much to lose by trying.
