Amp for Genesis 500's?
Shhh... Some privileges should be earned, not just bought.
Amp for Genesis 500's?
When I first got G350's, had Monarchy SE100's that I had biamped with the previous speakers. There was a hole in the crossover area. Tried Manley Snappers but ended up with Plinius SA100, which blended seamlessly. So seamlessly that trying to opti...
Who is using passive preamps and why?
You all are making this appear much too complicated. I've plugged my TVC into a few friends systems and always had impressive and consistent results. I've changed amps and sources. I currently have a far from ideal load with long IC's, a 10K Zin h...
Who is using passive preamps and why?
Probably what made a passive TVC successful in my system is that the CDP has less than 100 Zout (impedance) and doubles to 4.2V with XLR cables. Enough bass to rattle the neighbor's windows and party level SPL's (my normal listening volume) at hal...
HELP I think I have an electrical issue??
No, thank you. Was having a problem with 2 boilers chewing up pilot valves mysteriously and it was my research into your problem that led to the Okaya snubbers. Won't be sure if it worked until the valves last for a couple years.
Plinius SA amps
Using dual SA100 mk3 in balanced, bridged mode (all XLR) with Genesis 350's (91dB) and passive (TVC) line stage, which also provides galvanic isolation. Dead quiet with ear right up to the speakers or amps. Also feeding them with balanced AC from ...
Your favorites amplifiers for their visual look ?
MISSION 776/777 with the name cast across the front and acting as heat sinks.Best I ever saw was a DIY amp project made out of chromed out Harley V-twin.
Plinius SA100MKll/MKlll
MKIII used two transformers to reduce hum.
Do aftermerket crossovers improve sound?
Ya, you could go active but that would require multiple amps or a multi-channel amp (Accuphase and Ayre come to mind) and the 802's are not an easy load.http://home.netvigator.com/~goneill/bw.htmToo late...http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Accuphase-F5-cross...
Sonic Frontiers Line 2, Heaven or Hell?
Evergrey, Google not workin' for you?http://mysite.verizon.net/vze22yzp/id10.htmlThis is more like what I did, before I found this link (notice the 240V supply). More links inside. You have to be a masochist to play with transformers but that's no...
Sonic Frontiers Line 2, Heaven or Hell?
Didn't like the SFL2 at first. Swapped the stock Sovteks to ECC88's and it improved but still a little rolled off on cymbals. Went to XLR cables, both out "direct" in, sacrificing balance control, ... much better. Tried balanced AC, through a cent...
Do the Isolation Transformers protect system
I've read up to 8:1 momentary surge reduction for iso's. Similar to a RC snubber. For example; if there's a 80V spike up to 200V for less than a few cycles (cycle =1/60 second), it could be reduced to 130V. Not a lot of testing has been done for t...
Stick with Aerial 20T to play above 100Hz? Or MBL?
If you like the 20T's, with that one exception, consider a Rives PARC bass equalizer.
help with speakers that rock, pleeze
Noticed a pair of VMPS RM30's in the listings in San Francisco at a good price.
Most NEUTRAL class A mono's
I would have reservations about a $20K active low pass (LPX) myself, but that alone doesn't limit you to the Tidal Impact amps. Pass, Krell, FM Acoustics all make top quality active crossovers that could be substituted as well and accommodate diff...
