panel speaker purchase
Lesser known hybrids:Ambience, A.R.T. (Advanced Ribbon Technology), BKS, Davidson and Soundline. There's more I'm forgetting right now. Some of these claim to work with low power tubes. (?)
panel speaker purchase
Have you considered the "ribbons" like Newform Research, VMPS, Wisdom, Genesis and Transmission Audio? Maybe an old pair of Carver Amazings. Some are dipolar.
What speaker to buy to start over.
Looked through the current list and, in your range, I would second the Dunlavy SCV (CT) and also suggest the Genesis 2.5's (NY) or the Infinity IRS Betas (LA). Unfortunately, shipping is restrictive for these heavyweights. There is a pair of Krell...
Ground loop feedback
The first step would be moving and separating all the power cords and IC's. Often, it is that simple.
Cambridge 840c
I haven't heard one but it certainly looks serious. Who would've guessed Cambridge and HK would be the first to use the new chipset?Hate to see a thread go lonely and I'm curious too.
ideal voltage for SS
How are you measuring? To neutral or ground? The difference might be due to something running to the neutral. Should be referenced to ground.American residential has 2 phases of "115" volt, cumulative to 230. Possibly an imbalance between them tha...
TVC Gain effects
The additional 6 dB of gain affects impedance issues for the worse. For the S&B, the input impedance would be 2500 and the output impedance increases. Obviously, that isn't a problem or you prefer the frequency extremes slightly rolled off.
Up & Over sampling Is one superior to the other?
Sorry. No habla generalizations.
What is the best CD player under $2000 ?
I looked at the Cambridge 840c and read some reviews. Looks promising. The upsampler is the newest generation and it uses dual differential DACs.
CDP's that have Digital Inputs
Cambridge 840c with newest generation Anagram upsampler.
dedicated outlet cost
I cheated. The main panel was full, obsolete and buried in the bedroom wall.Split off from the 230V/40A oven line and ran 6/3 in the crawl space up to a subpanel in a closet. Dual 15A breakers to the 5KVA transformer and have "balanced" AC on both...
bass traps..which wall first
That's not what I meant. You were asking about bass traps and foam just doesn't work for bass. It's mostly air but it works fine for mid to high frequencies and would be the choice for reducing highs without affecting lower mids. Denser material a...
bass traps..which wall first
Foam is NOT a bass trap, unless it's 4' thick. Cotton, compressed fiberglass (703/705) or mineral wool are denser and wideband but become less effective below 200Hz. Even the commercially available membrane traps are limited due to shipping size a...
bass traps..which wall first
Behind the speaker,in the corners, I prefer something soft and wideband. Then, behind the listener, membrane traps for deeper bass. Both can be combined if you're going DIY.
Bass traps
Does the bass sound different in various locations in the room? The second step would be to get a Radio Shack SPL meter and a test tone CD or software and determine if there is any suckout at the listening position and elsewhere. The severity of th...
