On a tangent, there is a book out titled "Albions Seed" that documents the four major folkways brought over from the U.K. One of them, the Borderers, settled west of the colonies since they couldn't get along with the others and have gone on to ev...
Wishing everyone a "Merry Christmas"
Zydo said it best. It's just a way of expressing a convention and nothing more than common courtesy to others. And by the way, a belated Merry Christmas to one and all.All the best,Nonoise
Has anybody tried using single solid core cables?
I, too, have found and prefer, solid core cables to stranded. Also, try and forgo the connectors and go bare wire (commando, for those who eschew underwear) since all connectors impart their own sound signature. All the best,Nonoise
Mapleshade Double Helix spker cable: Rating??
I've had the Mapleshade Clearview and now the Double Helix and love just about everything they do. They've bettered Music Metre, Clear Day (single run), Zu Mission and Supra 2.5. The only caveat I have with them is what I perceive to be a slight d...
Review: Darwin Ascension Interconnect
I haven't heard the Darwin Ascension but I have heard and now use the Darwin Silver ICs and your views on the Ascension mirror mine on the Silver. These are fantastic ICs, not only for the money but fantastic, period. The only difference I experie...
Good value for money speaker cables around $200
How long a run you need needs to be addressed as well.
The quest
Steve, looks like I'm going to have to spend more time at your next room at the next show. :-)All the best,Nonoise
Finding 'The weakest link" in my stereo
I thought this thread was about cabling but after rereading, I'd like to add one more thing that I've found to be a huge improvement that's not cable related.I've mentioned on another thread how my speakers are made: they're semi-open baffle and h...
The quest
Someday I'm going to have to make it to an RMAF affair. I have no doubt that PC audio can sound great but there's a learning curve to it and it's in a constant state of evolution, barely out of it's infancy and yet to attain adolescence, where mos...
The quest
I'm the first to admit that i'm not fond of change, especially after quite an investment in what I like, but I've been to audio shows where the latest and greatest in PC was being touted and it didn't sound any better than the rest of the exhibits...
The quest
Funny, I don't hear any of the glaring errors spoken of when doing things via CDP. I guess they've come a long way, I'm very lucky, or I'm just plain tone deaf. I don't think it's the latter. As for PC digital, all I hear is problems with interface...
Finding 'The weakest link" in my stereo
Mine were the ICs between my integrated and CDP. I tried some Darwin Silver ICs and the improvement was more than subtle.More, and better defined bass. A coherence that I've previously not thought possible (since I thought I had that base covered)...
What do I need to set up digital music server?
Courage and patience.
The quest
It's long been my belief that those of us old enough to have been raised with tubes as the only means of powering not only stereos but even TVs have a romantic link (for lack of a better word) to it and to the sound of vinyl due to it's coexistenc...
floor standing speakers with powered woofer
I haven't personally heard them but the Boenicke W5 really floated Srajan's boat over at 6moons.com and he's paired them with his Zu Submission Sub with great results. Boenickes' own sub should work as well. Here's the link: http://6moons.com/audio...
