What 'entrance' music?
Fanfare for the Common Man (Aaron Copeland)?BTW, the Royal Fireworks Music might not be such a good idea anyway. Handel was commissioned to write it for the dedication of a new library. During the ceremony, some of the fireworks landed on the roof...
bryston warm up time
I agree w scrowley. Any SS amp should be ready to go in no more than 15 minutes. And if you have a power conditioner with a meter, you can tell when that is because the idling current draw settles down and stops fluctuating. As for thermal stabiliz...
Mark Levinson Amplifier Hiss
Well, another likely thing it could be (due to age) is one of the pots might be dirty (volume or balance) Is the hiss (level and tone) always identical on both channels?
bryston warm up time
5 - 15 min. is the usual warm up for SS amps. I don't think there is anything wrong with your amp.
Mark Levinson Amplifier Hiss
You didn't say what amp, the ML9?Anyway, with preamps, especially older designs, you might want to put shorting plugs in the unused inputs. The fact that the hiss goes down as the volume goes up leads me to this conclusion.
Turntable wall mount DIY
Chris -- how did he keep it from swaying?
What Bryston says about power cord...
PCs and power amps: I have found that power amps don't show much benefit from even the fanciest PCs UNLESS they have at least 10 AWG conductors. In fact if you just make a PC from plain ole Carol 3 cond. 10AWG avail. from Home Depot and stick it on...
What Bryston says about power cord...
George, as a matter of fact, a number of equipment manufacturers (notably power conditioners, I don't know why those but...) offer optional power cord upgrades . . . . either of their own or others manufacture. But these come at a (usually signifi...

The Target and the Rega are the most ubiquitous commercial ones, but here's a link to some interesting custom shelves that some folks have made:http://www.theanalogdept.com/shelves_&_platforms.htm
What Bryston says about power cord...
Almost all manufacturers say the same thing as Bryston and REL. I mean, think about it: What if they said something like "Using a high quality aftermarket power cord may improve the performance of your new XXXX"Besides begging the question "Well w...
Record Damage and Conical and Shibata Styluses
Stefanl, that's very interesting (patented Nov. 1973) In an interview, A.J. van den Hul says that he began manufacturing the line contact styli in 1976, so it was only an interval of two or three years.

Dgad, I find the discrepancy between the specs on your box and what's published on the vdH website very strange. I would call or email Andre at the USA vdH office in California, give him the serial no. of your cartridge and ask him to check it wit...
Record Damage and Conical and Shibata Styluses
Hi Tom, yes I have the same memory about Shibata as you do. That they never really took off, although I don't know why and never owned one. But I wondered if it might be that they were simply succeeded by the line contact type. I just can't rememb...
Record Damage and Conical and Shibata Styluses
The conical and elliptical styli both touch the groove wall just at one point on each side (wall) of the groove ("the area of the above mentioned contact surface figure becomes small") The only difference is that the conical stylus rides higher in...

Dgad, check your Condor box again. I betcha it says ">200 ohms" which means "greater than 200 ohms."On the vdH website, in the "recommended load" column of the specs for your cartridge, it says "500 (>200)" which means that van den Hul recom...
