Andrew, thanks for the report (so far.) I think you'll find that when fully broken in (125-150 hrs) you'll be able to lower the load on the O to a more permanent setting of 55 - 65 ohms while maintaining all the highs and picking up even more bass...
Tuntable not working with wood floors..Help
If it's an old house, the ceiling will bounce too, and it's Ugly, Ugly, Ulgly !!! Plus the TT will sway when you use it unless you add horizontal guy wires or post tension wires down to the floor -- more Ugly!! So forget that.Elizabeth's shoring s...
best tonearm for Kondo IO-J cart.
It's a fairly low compliance cart. (10 x 10 to -6cm/dyne) and so would normally require a high effective mass arm. However, since the cartridge itself weighs 11 gms (kind of high-ish, especially when you add the mounting hardware which is about 2 ...
Kill Top End Extension - All Silver Ribbon Cables
In addition to all the foregoing comments, it seems to me that silver (and silver alloy) cabling tends to accentuate the high frequencies. So if anything, your cables are adding to the HF extension, not detracting from it. Must be something else.E...

Doug, you have GREAT hearing! When will you be turning thirty?
Arm and MC transformer to match ZYX Air3 cartridge
Stltrains, I think Dan put it best:"Even the very best of transformers cannot faithfully induce the entire signal from the input coil to the output coil."A step-up xfmr is not just a "coil of wire". It is an inductor with an iron core which produc...
Arm and MC transformer to match ZYX Air3 cartridge
Eric, which Airy are you getting the L (.24mV) or the H (.48mV)?Also remember, ZYX is one of a few manufacturers that spec their carts using the JVC test record. So when considering whether various phono preamps have enough gain, you need to conve...
Arm and MC transformer to match ZYX Air3 cartridge
In this day and age of truly magnificent high gain, low noise phono preamplifiers, I can't for the life of me understand why anyone would want to compromise the ultra-refined performance of an expensive low output MC cartridge by running its outpu...

Andrew -- I'd love to be an audiophile fly on the wall at that pow wow. Better not say anything about it to Mehran @ Sorasound just yet ;--)Speedy, RE the 47 ohm setting for the O: from all my polling of folks with Trannies (not yet the O of cours...
Best Amp for my Pipedreams and ML 32
Thanks Beemer, for adding another voice of reason. If Michauyuen will follow your example, I'm sure he'll have no complaints (even if he keeps his Krell on the bottom ;--).

Speedy, well that's good news -- guess I better get my W on the block ;--)I was quite interested by what you said about the Venustas tonearm cables. You see, mine belonged originally to Jim Aud himself, and were quite thoroughly broken in when I g...
Best Amp for my Pipedreams and ML 32
I disagree with Raul on this one. Yes synergy is very important, which is why I suggest you stick with Mark Levinson as your main amps and also as they're the preferred amps to match with the terrific 32 preamp. As for the low end, within rather br...
Best Amp for my Pipedreams and ML 32
For synergy, I'd consider a pair of ML 33H monoblocks (or 33's if you don't think they'd be overkill) and drive them with the ML 32.The other great SS combo for the PDs (but expensive) would be the darTZeel amp(s) and preamp..

Andrew, get that damn load down to 100 ohms. or even 60 ohms for heaven's sake. It will never sound right at 47K. And just set the headshell/top of cart parallel to platter. Run w/ a little xtra VTF till after 100 hours ( 2 - 2.25 gms)I'm not sayi...
Compliance & Efffective Mass Question
Your UNI is a med to med-low compliance (15) cartridge and would be happiest in a tonearm of med to high effective mass (Graham, SME V, TriPlanar), which I think your MG Airtech is not. You've added the silver ZYX plate but that may not be enough....
