Is There any Truly "High End" Integrated Amp?
Just as a bit of shameless promotion: I am selling what I believe is a TRUELY high end integrated: The Unison Research Unico SE modded by Underwood. It is brand new--see my ad. Sorry if this is offensive. I really do like integrateds and think the...
McIntosh MCD205 vd McIntosh MCD7009
I doubt you can go wrong here. I owned the 205 for a couple of years and thought it a truely fine redbook CD player. And, it is a changer which you might use more than you think. I am sure the 9 is nice too though, but I have never heard it.
What will best my present CD/ DAC?
I agree with what Kjweisner says. If a one box source suits your needs Have fun looking at all the great one box players in your price range. As always, if you can listen to one in your system before you buy, it is in your best interest. Some audi...
Will computer to DAC replace transports and cdp's?
One thing I forgot to add to my above post is that all my tunes were ripped in Apple Lossless format. There is no fan noise on my Apple Laptop -- I have the unit on a stand that keeps one end propped up and it is virtually silent.FM Radio: Many ra...
Will computer to DAC replace transports and cdp's?
Let me try again. Playing a song (Bill Evans Live at the Village Vanguard - Track 1, let's say) from an external LaCie hard-drive, using my Apple laptop running iTunes as the interface -- with the U24 taking the USB signal out from the computer an...
Will computer to DAC replace transports and cdp's?
I compared my hard drive based system as transport with my CEC TL-51X as transport. I was using a Dodson 218 DAC and the Waveterminal U24. I found it difficult to relibaly tell them apart.
Will computer to DAC replace transports and cdp's?
Matrix: It only take about 2-3 minutes to rip a CD to hard drive. To me, that time does not necessitate needing a separate transport -- though there may be other good reasons people want a seperate player/transport anyway(SACD/DVD-A).I agree that ...
Will computer to DAC replace transports and cdp's?
Dweller: When you rip a disc to iTunes it accesses the Gracenote database and assigns album and song titles to all the music you rip--for free. Also, the Waveterminal U24 can be used as a D/A converter or just a USB to S/PDIF converter.
Intergrateds: Bryston,Creek,Naim,Musical Fidelity
Unison Unico SE is worth considering.
Will computer to DAC replace transports and cdp's?
I agree that digital inputs on new CD players should be standard (if not USB inputs).
Will computer to DAC replace transports and cdp's?
As I have stated many time elsewhere, I changed over to a hard-drive based system last Spring and too have never looked back (I have iterated the reasons before and they have been stated in this thread already, so I am not going to repeat the now ...
Best speaker deals on Audiogon at the moment
I might go for the Von Schweikert VR4SR's that are being sold right now for 6K.
Is There any Truly "High End" Integrated Amp?
Unison makes some really nice integrateds as well.
Tube 2nd system for 5k.
You would maximize your amplification bang for the buck by going with an integrated amp--maybe something like the Unison Unico which can be had used for about 1K -- I would not spend more than $1500 on a source -- and that would leave you +2K for ...
