| DAC on Universal player I don't think there is a usd DAC in the price range you just mentioned that would improve things enough to be worth it. I agree with the folks who said that modding the player will make the greatest improvement, and not only to redbook. | |
| Digital vs. Analog a reasoned comparison I appreciate the thoughtful comments thus far. Just to reiterate, this was only meant to compare price/performance ratio at the relatively inexpensive level. I know both analog and digital front ends can sound awesome. My post was only meant to pu... | |
| Are Von Schweikert VR-2s worth auditioning? ABSOLUTELY WORTH A DRIVE TO AUDITION!!!I finally have 100 hours on my VR2's and I love them. I think all speakers take some work to place properly, these being no exception. And let's face it, your room is probably the cause of atleast 50% of the ... | |
| Anyone have problems with McIntosh MCD205? My player did the same as yours docter doug. I sent it back to McIntosh just a few days ago. I have not heard whether they will fix or replace it but, there were no questions asked either way. Good service by Mac and my dealer. | |
| Any Good CD Recorder/Players? You should check out the other threads on this subject in this forum. I have used the NAD C660 with great success for CD dubbing as well as recording from vinyl and other sources. It has 24 bit DAC's, HDCD, and also plays MP3. I cannot give you an... | |
| How did you get into this hobby? I loved music from very young, and listened to hundereds of great LP's and 8-tracks with my older brother growing up. I loved working the buttons on our cheapo mini-system (late 70's). The seeds were planted. Then, I watched my father build our fi... | |
| Is the MR85 Mcintosh Tuner any good.? I have lived with this tuner for over 1 year now and really enjoy it. As with any tuner, you need a good antennae to reel those signals in. But once it has them sometimes music sounds better than many CD's I own. It also has the ability to be fitt... | |
| Best single-malt Scotch... I like many. Great thread. Here's a recommendation for Balvenie. I think I have the spelling right. I prefer one of the older ones that are aged in Port wine casks. | |
| Not happy with Krell SACD I second the recommendation that "break-in" is REAL. To be fair you should give the player time to do what it can do. If after several hundred hours of break-in you are still displeased, atleast you will be confident that you just don't like the s... | |
| Good sounding carrousel cd player?? I second the rec. for the Sony 555 player. It sounds great on redbook and you get SACD. If you want you can get it modded at some point in the future (and still be close to your price point) or use an outboard DAC at some point in the future. | |
| McIntosh MCD-205 Changer? Jolen laub: Trust what your ears tell you. If you want SACD you might consider one of the Sony's 555 or 333. Good Luck, | |
| McIntosh MCD-205 Changer? I have owned a 205 for a little over 1 year now. I can compare it to the Anthem CD-1 (tubed changer), and the Sony 333 and XA777ES. I have the 205 because I wanted a changer and it can be worked from the same remote as the rest of my MAC gear (MA6... | |
| Experience with Vonschweikert VR2 or Logan Aeon i? Thanks for your response. I received my Dark Cherry VR-2's about 3 months ago and love them. Email me off this thread and we can swap set-up info and maybe learn more from each other. Thanks, | |
| Which speakers excel at low volume? One humble recommendation for the Von Schweikert VR-2. I have owned this full range speaker for 3 months now and am consistently impressed at the resolution I get a low volumes. Also, I will second the recommendation for what a good "loudness" (eq... | |
| Please guide re: Sony CDPs If you DO want the ability to play SACD, I would stick with the 555 and consider tweaking it with mods and cones and better powercords, etc., etc, to stay close to your budget and get the most out of redbook and SACD. They seem to do some inexpens... |
