AAC or AppleLossless
If you assume that you will (at some time) be porting the data off your HD into a very good DAC via a USB connection, you should definitively use a lossless scheme. I'm not sure it matters what format you choose. I know that testing has shown Appl...
Recommendations please for close-to-wall book-shel
Linn Tukans go close to the wall, and may make it down to 55. Might be more like 60. Not very expensive ($350).
HELP wiring - Romex 10 ga. to cryo or not?
If you really want isolated ground circuits (floating ground), then you will need different outlets. While Porter Ports are great, they are not isolated ground outlets. It may be a non-issue if you are using plastic boxes, but I used metal boxes a...
Need Ambient Speakers to Hang in Corners. Really
Thanks guys. I have decided to keep my Odysee Stratos dual mono for the amp, and just get a preamp with a remote control (any suggestions?). I'm not sure about which speakers yet, but maybe a small set of Totems... Trying to keep the price down (b...
DIY Room treatments..How Large?????
I've made DIY panels, just got them up this weekend. Have only done limited listening so far. My room is 14x18 with a sloped ceiling. I've got 2 2x6's on the front wall, 3 2x4's on the rear wall, a couple on each side wall, and 2 2x6's hanging fro...
Lugnut needs your advice on small speakers
I have to agree with Boa2, I found the triangles on the thin and annoying side, but that was with solid state amps, maybe with a warm tube amp... First order crossover, sounded best around 15 feet away! As for the Spicas, if your friend is really ...
Epos Vs. Neat
I'll just add that I was really impressed with the 12.2's. They are a great bang-for-the-buck speaker that I would recommend to anyone going shopping in the $800 new range.
Looking for a good tuner with AM too
How about getting a good table radio (e.g. Tivoli) for AM? I love listening to mine!
OK Stereophiles I Need a CD Player
The AH! Njoe Tjoeb 4000 is a good suggestion. I think you get it from upscale audio. The Arcam fmj23 is a nice unit, really clean bass, though I thought the mids were thinner than the tubed units mentioned here. The Jolida is also nice, sweet mids...
Suggestions for Feet
You can get sorbothane feet used for instrumentation at Edmunds Optical (related to Edmunds Scientific) for not much $$.
Anyone else heard the Quicksilver Triode Amps?
For the Quads, I'm using a pair of Cary SLM70's modified to run in triode. Each use 4 EL34's. They seem to convey both the subleties and delicies of a recording while also providing liquid midrange (in what I'd call a good way). The system is not ...
Anyone else heard the Quicksilver Triode Amps?
I have owned them for a while, but they weren't what I was looking for. I thought that the midrange, upper-midrange was a bit on the aggressive side. Not as smooth and sweet as I had hoped for. I listened to them with Proac 2.5's and Quad 988's, u...
Tivoli Model 1 vs. Model 2
I got the model 2, and I also have a model 1. The model 2 is alot of fun to listen to. It actually images quite well, as do many pairs of single-driver speakers. I should add, however, that reception on the model 2 is nowhere as good as the model ...
Harbeth Owners - What do you think?
Fit and finish is very good. The Audio Research 100.2 is a great amp, though I haven't heard it with the Harbeth's, I'd be very willing to give it a try. As for Harbeth dealers, contact the main man - Walter at Fidelus Audio (I think that's spelle...
Harbeth Owners - What do you think?
I love my 7.2's as well. One of the best things I heard at CES two years ago, for the money, for sure. The midrange is quite realistic. I think they are slightly recessed in the "presence" region, but when you listen for a while, you just get draw...
