PMC ,Harbeth or B&W?
DB1 sounds very much like Quad 12LS i used to own...very detailed, transparent, and excellent imaging...however....like the Quads...I found them to bright and fatiguing...they both have exceptional bass for monitors...what is up with the Brits thes...
Paradigm Studio 60 vs. PSB stratus silver i
I hate to mix things up...and I am familiar with both of the speakers you mentioned(I auditioned them as well)...but in the most direct terms...these are a lateral move at best in terms of the qualities you suggested...I would contact Roy at Green...

Is "live" music sound possible for under $1K
I can only echo what others have stated...intergrated amp...older Scott or Jolida for tubes...used NAD,creek, rotel.etc for solid state...efficient monitors(which dont require alot of power) of 90db or greater(maybe Castle Richmonds?)...and a curre...

Wow..I wish I had your problem...not sure what model...but the THIEL range would be something to look into...phasecorrect design as well...Meadowlark also comes to mind...
Metal speakers. How are they?
I like metal...but it has to have spandex and hair spray to sound its best...long live Diamond Dave! ON a more serious note...I prefer the natural tonal quality of treated paper...
Speakers: What's MOST important to you?...
Non-fatiguing sound=True time/phase design, low difraction enclosure=transparency...I can give up top-end "sparkle" and deep bass for a very cohesive, musical, and involving midrange...where 90% of music is produced....
Energy Veritas 2.1 sound too lean
GIve tube power a try...a nice round midrange would give the Energys some needed weight and warmth...Jolida comes to mind....
Basic question about impedance and watts
Try Nad power...cheap,clean, and very musical...the c370 is in your ballpark..more than enough power for Thiels...I use the c350 with 4 ohm loads...and believe me...it is very loud in my 16 x 20 room...good luck...
Speaker Upgrade?
Well...sounds like you are more unhappy with the Vandies cosmetics than anything else...and the Europas look cool in a Stanley Kubrick retro way...Joseph AUdio makes a nice monitor under 2k that looks great as well...good luck...many choices in th...
Speaker Upgrade?
Also...I previously owned the QUad 12ls prior to my Europas...so I am very familiar with all the speakers you mentioned...once again...keep your vandies...happy holidays
Speaker Upgrade?
Keep the Vandies...the above mentioned speakers are not substantial enough of an upgrade in my humble opinion my dealercarries Vandersteen,Spendor, and Sonus Faber,,,however...if WAF is a must...then the entry level SOnus Faber...for the record......
Linn Movie Classik vs Linn Move Classic Di
I would buy the original CLassik...they can be found used for $7-800 on this site...good luck...I wouldnt pay what they are asking for retail...or the extra 1k for the newer model...there are plenty other options at those price points...such as se...
will monitors work in a large room?
listener...most speakers would benefit from a sub...even full range ones...albeit a musical sub set up properly...no sub also beats a cheap sub in my opinion...
